Javier Mascherano will miss Liverpool's Carling Cup trip to Arsenal on Wednesday after being sent off in the 2-0 win over Manchester United.
The one-match suspension follows a late challenge on Edwin van der Sar for which referee Andre Marriner awarded a second yellow card.
Mascherano will be back in contention for next weekend's trip to Fulham.

Surely Agger has to start to get more fitness?
I'd go for something like this:
-------------- Cavalieri---------------
-----------Ayala-----Skrtel----Agger-----
----Degen---- Spearing --- Plessis ----Dossena
----------------- Babel ---------------
------------N'gog---------Voronin----------"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

Cavalieri
Degen/Kelly depending on fitness
Agger
Skrtel
Dossena
Lucas
Aurelio
Babel
Voronin
Spearing
N'Gog
With maybe Aquilani coming on for the last 10 minutes if possible, Benayoun on the bench along Johnson, hopefully just give Torres, Carra and Gerrard the week off to recuparate. This team is lacking leadership though on second thought.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I'd like to see a pretty strong team out there. Getting ****ted by a young Arsenal side isn't going to help us build on a good victory. I'd start Spearing next to Lucas in the midfield but unless Rafa really feels some of the first-teamers could do with recovery time I wouldn't want too much messing around with the personnel. Two wins on the bounce would do us a world of good.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

I think it'll be a mixture of first teamers and reserves. As much as it's another trophy I don't think we should risk anyone that isn't 100% (Gerrard and Torres especially), Johns and Agger probably can't play 2 games in a week with current fitness levels and Mascherano is suspended. I don't see Aquilani doing anymore than a sub appearence for the last 15mins at most.
I'd guess at:
-----------Cavalieri
Degen Carragher Skrtel Aurelio
------Lucas---Spearing
Babel----Voronin----Dossena
-----------Ngog
Carragher always seems to start and with Gerrard out there's no other obvious leader, Insua has played quite a few games and will probably get a rest so not to wear him out. Skrtel will come back so as not to push Agger too hard. Lucas and Spearing are best midfield we have if we don't risk anyone. Ngog deserves a game (and we won't risk Torres), the 3 behind him will get a chance to see what they can do. I'd expect Torres and Gerrard to be on the bench and maybe come on for last 15 as this is what Rafa tends to do in these games. Aquilani might get the same if he's up to it, although personally I'd prefer some of the kids to get a run out if possible Pacheco for one and I wouldn't be suprised to see Ayala feature from the bench too.Last edited by Exiled_red; 26-10-09, 06:36 PM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The offal confirm this.Originally posted by pondus View PostAquilani is in the squad, but will not start the game, according to Rafa (liverpool.no)
Hopefully he gets a run out the last 20-25 minutes
Also Dossena and Kyrgiakos are fit enough to start.
Cavalieri
Degen
Kyrgiakos
Skrtel
Dossena
Babel
Spearing
?
?
Voronin
N'Gog
I'd have the above team in for definite as all need games, not sure who I'd play alongside Spearing and who to play on the opposite wing to Babel.
Maybe start Lucas and take him of for Aquilani, but we also have the option of Plessis. Think Spearing and Plessis is to weak a midfield for an Arsenal team though.
As for the wing, I like the look of Amoo and Eccleston (striker but has played on the wing) and either would please me to see them start. But I suspect Yossi, who has played the least of the available wingers.
The last option is to start Fabio and Dossena on the left side, either can play both LW or LB. In fact, Fabio at LB and Dossena on the LW would be my preferred option.
So I'd take the nine above to start, as well as Lucas and Aurelio.
Giving three of Aquilani, Pacheco, Ayala, Amoo and Eccleston game time would also be my preferred option.
With a positive result that would make it a very pleasing night, but even with a negative result it would be nice to play some of the younger lads and also give vital game time to senior players who need to be ready if called upon.Forwards.......
