I think that Rafa thinks that 23 is the age that you make the 'too old' judgement if you see something in a player but it hasn't developed. A lot of people tend to think of 21 as the limit - I guess we will see in a few years whether Rafa is right to give some of the younger players longer to develop.

I expect it's all to do with what the coaches and manager see on a daily basis, not just playing but in training, what he's capable of, how intelligent he is and his ability to learn, he's not maybe transfered that to the pitch yet, but they obviously believe that if he can, then we have a very good player on our hands.

They must have faith in his ability to become a better player..

if giving him a 4 year deal gets us a bigger fee when we sell him then i'm all for it. but i thought rafa had to subtract new contract prices from his already small transfer budget. if thats true then it seems like a waste of money giving plessis a new contract. its money we dont have to waste being wasted.

He is quite tall, perhaps he may be moulded into a centre half. I think he's played there a few times for the reserves.

I wouldn't class having a reserve team as 'wasting money.'

I was thinking more of a Momo Sissoko

Strange move considering how far he seems to have regressed.
Obviously Rafa still sees something in the lad that may bloom
in the future. Let's hope he knuckles down now and fulfils his early promise.

So he is potentially a useful player? Would be excellent to see an Icelander play for Liverpool, nevermind seeing a decent midfielder in the national team.
