From the BBC Site:
1718: Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez on his side's defeat by Fulham: "It is really disappointing. The game was really one-sided until we conceded the first goal and the same happened in the second-half when we had dominated. We had to take Fernando Torres off, he has been injured and he had been training in pain - we knew it would have to happen but it was just a question of when."Last edited by Agger the Dagger; 31-10-09, 06:27 PM. I think after watching today's game and the last couple of seasons in general, Jamie Carragher is perhaps the most overrated player in Liverpool's history. He's being idolized like a world class defender when he wouldn't look out of place in a mid-table side, perhaps even worse than that. Granted he's had three very good season during Rafa's first years here but his reputation's been carrying him since. He's about as talented as Carles Puyol, and you don't see Barcelona counting on him week in week out. He'll obviously continue to be branded a colossus every time we play a top team, keep ten men behind the ball and wrap him up with cotton wool and extra protection wherever it's needed so he's never isolated with someone.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostBut even with all those players missing, Liverpool should still be able to get a result. I saw our line up, and whilst it was poor, it did look good enough. I think it is fairl obvious now that after this seasons results myself and others have misguided views about how good some of the Liverpool players are.
Mascherano is also vastly overrated, a completely useless player when we have the ball. Sometimes I wonder what's the point in having a defensive midfielder who can't pass the ball when two genuine central midfielders with a good work rate can make up for the lack of a "specialist".
Kuyt, as well. I still haven't seen Dirk Kuyt produce a performance when things aren't going well for the team. You never expect him to carry us, just add hard work to compliment our star players. He's our Ji-Sung Park and nothing more, maybe better finishing but even that's questionable. He's lovely when things go well of course.
The problem is that with the huge implications of us not getting into the next stage, I won't be surprised if it's become our policy to first concentrate on finishing 3rd/4th and going as far as possible in the competition that gives us the most money. But in my book, there had better be a damn good reason for taking Torres of with half an hour to play. And I don't want to hear Rafa say he brought him off so he would be fit for Lyon. The league should be our number one priority. Same goes with regards to Yossi.

might be his lastOriginally posted by Bender View PostNot the first time Rafa has done this
a weakened squad through injuries/illness etc and at 1-1 with as much chance as them of winning it take off our best players
a win today and we'd be on a role as it is we're going into the Lyon match under more pressure
recon we finished the game with no player who has scored a goal this year.
maybe Rafa should should look at the skill column and not just the fitness one.
Chelsea 3-0 up and still finish with their best players one of whom scored.
someone said bring in Kenny
could be a very very good callIts times like these we learn to live again FF

Excuses if you ask me, Torres has been injured yes, but he looked surprised to be going off.Originally posted by Agger the Dagger View PostFrom the BBC Site:

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."
I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

If people point out Kuyt's play for their 2nd goal, then how do you rate Degen's play in that situation? Nice home tactics from our previous national head coach. Adventurous as ever even if we had half of the 1st eleven sick/injured. Nice to see them rewarded with 3 points. Anyways even with that team I was 100% sure we would win it. Gutted.Forbes knows best... FACT

Think this is a bit of a myth that Sky dreamed up at the start of the season.Originally posted by tommyg View PostI generally think Mancs/Chavs/Blue Mancs/Villa/Spurs/Blue****e all have better squads than us this year.
We've had key injuries this year to many first team players. Today we had what, eight or nine players out including our right back, two centre halves, a left back, Gerrard, Aquilani, Riera and even El Zhar & Kelly (ok, fringe players, I'll admit that).
I just think we lack cover for Torres. Apart from that I don't think our squad is that weak - not as strong as Chelsea's and United's, but certainly not worse than Spurs, Villa and Everton.

I can see where Rafa is going but sometimes he must realise that he must throw caution to the wind and try to ensure his team wins a game, instead of seeing the bigger picture all the time.Originally posted by ForeverRed View PostLiverpool manager Rafael Benitez on his side's defeat by Fulham: "It is really disappointing. From BBC
I mean, even if there's a risk of losing Torres for one month, still we could come out with a win and that would do loads to our confidence. A win gives everyone at the club a massive lift, especially when we have players who are woefully short of it (Voronin, Babel) in the team.
Even Torres seemed to disagree with the substitution. This means that the players are caring, and want to win (well at least those two - Benni and Torres). Sometimes Rafa has to think short term, not long term.

After watching that I just can't believe what I was seeing I can only put it down to this.....................Rafa was either keeping one eye on the Lyon game or he's watching the Real Madrid situation ,I can only describe today's decisions that as Kamikaze manager tactics,
Voronin played 90 mins ? how the **** is that possible , he was **** . Took Torres and Benni off ? how can he explain that ? looking at their reactions they were not injured.
Kuyt was woeful and thats a compliment , Carra and the Greek should never play together ,neither can pass, neither has pace and the communication must be ****ing brilliant to listen to.And has anyone told Masher he has a brilliant shot? and he should shoot at every oppertunity.
Rafa please explain today because I'm at a loss . Is it Real Madrid or Lyon? You Can Lead A Horse To Water , But A Pencil Must Be Lead!
