oh and one thing that occurred to me about carragher.

he's been a hero of the last 5 years right? well as our team move forward and leave him more exposed, we see all this sh1t defensively. was he protected a lot with xabi et al until now? i feel guilty at targetting carra i really do. but wtf is going on?

There was nothing wrong with him though (by the look of him) and he and Benny were our only real goal threats...and he took them both off.

oh come on. fitness is something we have NO knowledge of. 'he looked alright to me'. He should do, he was being KEPT FIT rather than run until he drops. Torres tired all week and unable to train normally sounds like a legit reason to take him off.

the point is there is no-one to back him up. voronin is useless and doesnt care to be here. yes rafa signed him but why wasnt he sold? was rafa WANTED him or cos he wasnt going to get any type of replacement?

we're not going to have a great time until after christmas IMHO.

Without QUALITY backup to the first team, we're weaker in a competitive league. not rocket science.

Rafa has overhauled the squad on a relatively reasonable budget. not rocket science.

Rafa can't get the second string to play anywhere near what the first are capable of. Why is this?

We are so p1ss poor without a 3 or 4 'first teamers' its untrue.

that will be the undoing of rafa. unless he can fix this, we won't win the league with him. the second half of last season is now looking like a stroke of luck rather than a master plan. that is very depressing.

I don't think we'll ever win the league again in my lifetime unless we get serious financial backers. You see my problem is not with not winning the EPL, all we can realistically hope for these days is a decent cup run and a top 4 finish in the league. I'm happy with that as long as we're near the top until the end.

My problem is when we don't always utilise our best players when they are fit, like today. If you decide to take our best players off with 20 or 30 minutes left and we go on to win fine, if not, then its backfired and you need to explain yourself.

It was plain to anyone who watched the game that Torres and Benny were fit and pissed off to be subbed. Rafa did this with one thing in mind and thats the CL. Basically he's given up on the EPL this season...in October and thats disgraceful at this stage of the season. Its going to backfire even more too because we'll be out of the CL in the second week of December too.

Got to say Fat Tony you make some valid points

The striker situation at a club of this stature is shocking, thats my main gripe with Rafa. I'd even go for someone like Bent instead of the likes of Voronin, but Rafa's insistence in playing with Torres up front on his own most of the time means we'll never be able to attract or keep hold of a decent striker again as they'll spend 90% of their Liverpool career sat on their arse.

That said, with everyone fit we have a decent squad, but even then he's prone to pissing about too much, especially down the wings.

The gap between us and Chelsea will only increase as the season progresses and it'll be back to the first few years when we were 20 points off the top.

Riera is still injured, the rest got sucked into a black hole. Heard there was a virus going round the place, also heard there was nothing wrong with Agger and Skrtel, I guess we'll never know.

The problem with that though is its preventing us from creating strength in depth up front. All the strikers we've sold on have gone because they were sat on the subs bench watching the Gerrard and Torres show. As long as he insists with that formation we will not have another world class striker at the club and this means that we'll always fall short because Torres and Gerrard will spend time injured and when that happens, not only are we then reliant on second class strikers, we're reliant on second class strikers with very little experience. It makes our resources look worse than it should, if we played 442 we'd have another world class striker playing with Ngog and Voronin now.

With another quality striker, Gerrard could still play a little more forward as teams would sit deeper with the added goal threat.
