Get real. the league title isn't even worth talking about. This is a car crash season and we should be crossing everthing for a 4th pace finish. Would I accept 80 points now? Absolutely.

I wouldn't accept 80 points now. I think we'll get over that mark. The big question for everyone is whether or not a points total of about 83 points will win the league. I think not.

On current form we're on for 62 points, but obviously we're having a mare at the moment and that won't continue.

Chelsea are currently averaging 2.45 points a game, which I just don't see us matching now as they've been in great form. I can see us getting 2 - 2.45 points a game, lets split it and call it 2.23 points a game which would give us 78 points and 4th place based on last season. However we now have Spurs and Citeh to deal with.

The one thing that gives me hope is the fact that whilst we're having the worst run in the league for many decades, Spurs and Citeh are having their best runs and are still only a point ahead. When we hit a patch of form (and we will) we'll begin to move clear and make 4th our own. Feck me, I've managed to convince myself that there is light at the end of the tunnel...ok so its in the shape of 4th, but I'll take that now.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

my light at the end of the tunnel is i dont think Scum will win the league......in fact i could see chelsea winning it quite clearly this year.

Spurs and City wont challenge us for 4th in my opinion and still think we will push for 2nd and 3rd with Arse and scum

The City is game is absolutely massive though, as is Lyon of course. If we can beat Lyon then it'll give us a lift. I really fear for our season though if we don't win at Lyon. Out of the CL and out of the league and CC by November. Grim
Will it? Beating man utd should have given us a lift and look what we followed that up with!

But the thing is that 6 teams won't be close to 78 points. In the end 2 teams will fall quite short of that mark, and spurs are showing signs of slowing down. I also don't think city is there yet, they need another season or so, but they will be a future challenge for sure - especially if they get a world class manager!!

The only comfort atm is that even thogh we are running through the worst spell in god knows how many years, we are still within 1 game from CL football, which is probably the most realistic goal we can set this season.

IMO the winner of the league will only get 82 points this season, and we can still achieve that....

We could lose 5 more and end up with 84pts...

                    to early to panic.....

it's not to early to panic at all. 6 defeats in last 7 games. 5 out of 11 in the league. 9 points off top already. okay it's only november but there is still reason to worry.

Well it's man Utd v Chelsea this weekend and we play Birmingham on Monday. A very good chance to catch up on at least one of our title rivals. Sickining to think what a win over Fulham and Birmingham could have done for us. We would have been right in the mix.

But we have to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves down. A win over Lyon and I expect us to have enough confidence to beat Birmingham at Anfield. After that game we should hopefully be looking at the retun of some big players. We should manage Debrecen away without a few of the main men. After that it's a really big push in the league and a massive encounter against Firointina.

But if we fail to win in Lyon our hopes are hanging by a thread, relying on Fiorintina to drop points against Debrecen (unlikely) or Lyon. And getting knocked out the CL would be a hammer blow to the club.

Only one positive about getting knocked out of the CL. I'd have us as favourites to win the UEFA cup.........

Don't you? I am 99% certain you do. Think I remember Dan Petrescu saying about the need to beat Rangers and finish 3rd to stay in Europe.

                                No, you're right

"• Ten clubs eliminated from the UEFA Champions League play-off round qualify automatically for the group stage."

I was sure they stopped doing that a couple of years ago, no idea where I got that from.
