    Degen loses red card appeal

Thought he would have won that one myself. Can't see Carragher winning his now.

    From Sky Sports:

Philipp Degen's appeal following his red card against Fulham has been rejected, while the FA have cleared up two cases of mistaken identity.

Liverpool defender Degen was dismissed late on in the 3-1 defeat at Craven Cottage on Saturday after a lunging challenge on Clint Dempsey.
The Anfield outfit felt referee Lee Mason had been harsh on the full-back and were keen to see the offence downgraded to a caution.

But the Football Association's regulatory commission have agreed with Mason's verdict and Degen must now serve an immediate three-match suspension.

Rafa Benitez will now be without Degen's services for the Premier League clashes with Birmingham, Manchester City and derby rivals Everton.

At the same hearing, the FA upheld claims of mistaken identity from Manchester United's Fabio Da Silva and Aston Villa's Stephen Warnock.
Da Silva's booking in the Carling Cup victory over Barnsley at Oakwell has now been transferred to his twin brother Rafael, while Warnock's caution in the draw with Everton now rests with team-mate Stiliyan Petrov.

I'm not suprised, I thought the FA only over turned these decisions in cases of mistaken identity?

By the way how come it's a 3 match ban? Is it classed as violent conduct?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

What? Very suprised by this, especially when the whole of the media and ex referees they get on Sky Sports News say it should only have been a caution.

        Ridiculous.

I guess not as it would make sense that they were heard on the same day since the sendings off occured on the same day.

...on the other hand since when to the FA do anything in a logical manner

It was appealed. A decision hasn't been made yet.

Degen's red card was justified IMO. It was open to different 'interpretations' anyway that's why some people thought it wasn't a red card per se. But it was a dangerous tackle and I have no qualms about him being sent off.

The Carra one was different, but he still was climbing on Zamora, even if if won the ball in the end. I think we should say **** it, let's turn the page and move on.

These only get overturned if the Ref agrees he was wrong.

Dreadful decision by a horrendous organization. They rescinded Lampards on Alonso despite his foot being off the floor yet wont rescind this? Joke.

There are alot of tackles like that in the game that are punished with a yellow card. The issue is consistency, while there are different interpretations from referees and fans, the FA and the appeals panel should ensure that everyone is treated equally and fairly

I thought all straight reds ended in a 3 match ban to be honest.

As for whether it was a red I honestly can't say as I couldn't bear to watch it, too depressing, but what I would say is nothing the FA does or doesn't do with certain teams/players surprises me as they are a bunch of weak as piss no marks (sorry for the language) just as the Premier League are, UEFA are and FIFA are. Not one of them has the good of the game or honesty in their interests.

No, don't think so. I think its only for violent play. Vidic got a straight red at OT last season against us but got a one game ban extended to two as it was his second of the season.

I might be wrong but I thought two yellow cards was a 1 game ban, and a red 2 unless it was for violent conduct in which case 3. (For players with decent disciplinary records, I think you get more games if you are sent off multiple times a season)
