    The problem for the appeals panel is that they have a limited remit and they have been asked to back the referees judgement in most situations. As it is a matter of interpretation and the ref stood firm it was always unlikely the appeal would succeed.

    I actually think that the card while debateable was fair enough - the problem is as you say consistency (i.e. Lampard last season had cards rescinded). I think they should alter the appeals process and that it would be much better if they had more open judgements and that referees were held to account over longer periods of time rather than the current all or nothing approach which sees officials relegated from the PL for single bad games or decisions that get a lot of press.

      the actual guidelines are that they have been asked to back the referees judgement in most situations, unless the player belongs to Chelsea or Man U.

        A straight red is only 1 game unless it was for violent conduct.

        IF you appeal and lose then you get the ban extended to 3 games. Which is worrying if we have appealed Carra's.
