I mean at this level how do u not score when 1 on 1 with the keeper - it's their fault we lost (sorry drew) & that's the bottom line...
Behave lad. Lucas' chance was a fantastic save from their keeper and he had a decent game in all.
Voronin, agreed.

Tonight summed him up completely for me. Absolutely brilliant goal but then wasted an easier chance to kill the game. Have to say though, would rather pick him than Voronin.
If Stevie G had played tonight we would have torn Lyon a new one."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

What did Lucas do that was so great? And I don't buy the fantastic save - at this level from 5 yards out it should be a goal - period!Originally posted by lackyboy View Post

Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

I dont recall Lucas' putting a foot wrong tonight? Who else did something that 'was so great'? Lucas Hunting I believe!Originally posted by Nick77 View PostWhat did Lucas do that was so great? And I don't buy the fantastic save - at this level from 5 yards out it should be a goal - period!
Someone please correct me of I'm wrong but, I think 9 times out of ten the keeper doesn't save Lucas' finish - my opinion anyway.Last edited by lackyboy; 05-11-09, 12:33 AM.---------------------------------------------------

The Lucas finish was an ideal height for the keeper, he only had to stick his arm out. Higher or lower and he would have scored for sure. But it was nil nil at that stage, so even if he had scored there is nothing to say we would have still won.Originally posted by lackyboy View PostI dont recall Lucas' putting a foot wrong tonight? My biggest fault on lucas is that when he or team mates around him lost the ball upfield, all he did was jog back, when as a DM he should be busting a gut to get back and clear up the danger. I could have ****ing strangled him about ten times tonight.
But overall he had a good game and is clearly getting better. I'm sure he'll become a very good player for Liverpool in the future.Forwards.......

Lucas was not the problem tonight. Ideally we wouldn't have played with him and Masch together (I think we're too square in midfield when that happens), but given injuries etc we had little choice and Lucas was one of the better players we had on the pitch.
Babel has ability, but he just does not have a footballing brain imo.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Don't get me wrong, I put him second in the MOTM thread, because the other work he did was outstanding. But he does need to show some more urgency when tracking back.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostLucas was not the problem tonight. With regards Babel, it's a pointless argument (actually - same as Lucas!) in that everyone has made their mind up on him. It's in his own hands to change peoples opinions of him. Actions on the pitch speak louder than anything else.
Kuyt, Yossi and now even Lucas have won over the doubters in the past. All would have been sold by the critics, some of whom now praise them.Forwards.......

Kuyt and Benayoun have always made an effort, Lucas was a bottler at the start of last season. Only an idiot would criticise a player for making an effort, and all three of those work their nads off regularly. Only lazy ****ers like Babel who have ability, but no conviction are genuinely deserved of the criticism levelled at them.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostKuyt, Yossi and now even Lucas have won over the doubters in the past. Regarding the finish - obviously not perfect seeing as he didn't score, but it was more of a save than a miss in my eyes.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostThe Lucas finish was an ideal height for the keeper, he only had to stick his arm out. Lucas in general I think does have that tendancy to switch off if the opposition player gets goal side (Insua is extremely guilty of this). I'm not sure of the role Lucas will play for us once Aquilani is fit. He is steady enough, but lacking creativity and has a craving for giving silly freekicks away. Having said that, one of our better performers this year!!---------------------------------------------------

Lucas is now a player who virtually everyone will accept as cover for a first choice pairing of Mascher and Aqua. That proves his progression to me. Ideally I'd like another playmaker type as cover for Aqua, but he's spot on as a replacement for Masch.Forwards.......

When did this become a thinly veiled Lucas bashing thread? Jesus, get a grip, he was one of our better players tonight.
Babel clearly demonstrated everything in 15 minutes what he is about. From the sublime to downright ridiculous, and yes, I'm talking about that free kick. He's simply not consistent enough to play for an inconsistent team (oh
) I'm sure that strike might stick with Benitez for the game against Birmingham since Gerrard may be out for some time, we could do with some ammunition like that.
