    Are we regressing?

Not so long ago, we were considered one of the best teams in Europe, definitely amongst the top 4, teams feared us, they hated coming to Anfield. Any European games containing Liverpool, especially knockout stages where considered special occasions. The last 3 years have seen us gradually regress in Europe, we're not feared anymore, we're not exciting anymore and we're certainly not considered amongst the best anymore. It is no co-incidence this has happened since the yanks have been here and I can only see us getting worse as there is no investment being put into the team. The thing that worries me most is that we are going to find it too difficult to get back to where we were 3/4 years ago, just look to Real Madrid, they spent a few years in the wilderness and have now spent around £200m to try and get back amongst the best in Europe. We're going to find ourselves in that same kind of situation and it's all because the owners have failed to re-invest the money earned from the champions league back into the team.

Anybody agree and what are your thoughts ???

Point number 1 you said Babel and Voronin were starting last night.
Point number 2 I'm sure we whipped the mighty Real Madrid last year in the CL and got knocked out by Chelsea who are hardly ****.

Why should we be expected to be in the top 4 teams in Eurpoe every year?? look at what we spend, look at the revenue we generate (or lack of).
We haven't regressed we have been over achieving since Rafa has been here and some tools want him sacked.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

We have not regressed. We just haven't progressed enough. Our starting XI looks stronger with every year on the face of it, but our back ups haven't improved at the same rate.

The key to building a strong squad is to sell your worst players every summer and bring in better ones. Every season Rafa has been here he's had to sell some of his better players to bring in even better players.

For instance, we sold Momo to bring in Masch and Bellamy to bring in Torres. Both sensible, but only because we lacked the money to keep them.
      Forwards.......

We have not regressed, we just haven't had the money to improve as much as our rivals.

I think we have gone backwards this season. 5 losses out of 11 league games is all you need as evidence of that. Last season we had more strength in depth and without Torres and Gerrard managed some impressive results.

We have beome defensively vulnerable, and whilst I will not lay the blame on any individuals I think the defensive problems will be here for a while yet.

Momo was sold because we lacked the money to keep him!!?!! After a decent start to his career, he "developed" into one of the poorest players in the clubs history. Now THAT's regression!

without the injury crisis we have now.

We have moved forward as our team is getting better (first 11 at least), however due to lack of funding compared to our competitors the rate at which we are moving forward has been surpassed by other clubs, i.e. they are moving forward faster than us, so we are beeing overtaken

I think that we have improved but have had bad luck this season and bad play with late goals. Once we have Aurelio, Aquilani, Gerrard, Riera, Agger back on a regular basis what we should find is that some of the players that have had to do a job more than maybe expected such as Insua, Lucas, Ngog have improved as players as a result of the play they have had at the beginning of the season. That in turn will lead to a stronger squad.

I think some players have played poorly or made mistakes such as Skrtel (mistakes) and Voronin (overall consistent poor play), but overall I dont think there is as much difference as there has been made out to be.

Everyone is disappointed in yesterday's result but an away draw at Lyon and almost winning it is a good result. Its the two games before that, and te timing and nature of the goal that makes yesterday's not so good.

Can't remember the last time I saw us play good football and that is sad, no matter what players are on the pitch.

As others have said, we haven't regressed but neither have we progressed. I also think that Glenn Johnson has made us more attacking, leaving us more exposed at the back. We aren't getting the draws that we hated last year but, unfortunately, they've turned into losses!

Final, semi final, quarter final and now struggling to through the group stages. If that isn't going backwards then I don't know what is.

The debts are crippling us, the yanks are holding us back and Rafa can't build the squad we need to compete against the top teams. When you have to sell to buy, in my eyes that is regressing.
