Obviously, you are right in that any sponsor of the stadium would need a cast iron guarantee that it is going to be built.

We are not just talking about the new stadium but also the current one... we are going to be playing at anfield for a good few years yet...

To be honest I think alot more people would accept selling the naming right to a new stadium but I think that there is likely to be alot more opposition from people to doing it to the current stadium. I guess people would see naning rights to a new stadium as a necessary evil ensuring that it got built, and new start new ideas. But I'd imagine people would see selling the naming rights to the current Anfield as selling our soul and disrespecting the history and tradition.

Personally I don't think things are that black and white.

yeah me too... times are a changing and if we dont stop living in the past and expecting everything to be handed to us we will fade away into mediocrity

Never rename the existing stadium, it's a spectacular fail on the PR and Marketing front - just look at Newcastle Some jokers just don't understand.

However, I'd seriously look at stadium naming rights for the new stadium, it'll never be Anfield anymore, so lets not kid ourselves, might as well take the corporate buck. IMO Arsenal's stadium rights has been a success, with Emirates Stadium an easily remembered name which has stuck, none of the @ bollocks.

I think by describing it as 'the sacred place that is Anfield' you have answered your own question.

We've always campaigned to keep our historic values. We've criticised the Yanks for trying to cash in with soulless ventures and money making schemes, and yet now we're suggesting doing the same?

Anfield as a name is synonymous with our history. What price for history, eh? What price for reputation?

The Stadium formerly known as Anfield Dot Carlsberg Dot Com doesn't quite have the same historic ring to it, does it?

I know what you are saying when you say I have answered my own question, in that of course I would rather not but in this day and age of money being everything then I would actually consider it.

We need to be able to compete with other teams.
