Should we do what Newcastle are doing and...

...what the Chavs are considering and sell the naming rights to the sacred place that is Anfield?

Considering we do not have a sugar daddy or a bottomless pit of cash should we dare to think this to bring in more revenue to help Rafa have more transfer funds?

I think by describing it as 'the sacred place that is Anfield' you have answered your own question.

We've always campaigned to keep our historic values. We've criticised the Yanks for trying to cash in with soulless ventures and money making schemes, and yet now we're suggesting doing the same?

Anfield as a name is synonymous with our history. What price for history, eh? What price for reputation?

The Stadium formerly known as Anfield Dot Carlsberg Dot Com doesn't quite have the same historic ring to it, does it?

If some thick corporation wants to hand over £100m for basically a big advertising board - then thank you very much.

If/when we finally build the new stadium - we've lost "Anfield" in any case. Do Arsenal fans still call their ground - Highbury, Sunderland - Roker Park, Man City - Maine Road.

If the game wasn't based around money or we weren't planning on a new stadium than I would say NO.

Even if we did 'change' the name of the stadium this and the next generation of fans would still call it Anfield.
It would only be called something different in the media

            Ryan Babel IS Snoogy Doogy

The comments were made in May 2007. Rafa signed MC Snoogy in July 2007.

I'm sure SimonNo7 is making a point worthy of discussion in his actual post, however I find it impossible to to take this thread that seriously because of its title.

We should NEVER EVER EVER do "what Newcastle are doing". In any way.

Replace them with "Arsenal" and you have a thread.

If Addidas ( or a massive corporate) want to pay us a ridiculous amount of cash & RAFA gets it all to spend (not to service debt).

Then we should seriously consider it.

That said, i couldn't go to the Wall-mart/homedepot/tesco.com stadium.............

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

No corporation is going to sponsor something that has a lot of uncertainty surrounding it.

Agree, but there is so much uncertainty surrounding the stadium as well. While we all know the current regime cannot afford to build a new stadium, that same regime have gone round the world telling everyman and his dog how they are going to build this shiny new stadium

can't see anyone paying more than £3/4m, would there be any point?

The only point would be if the deal was carried over should this mythical new stadium be built.

That's the only way anyone would come up with a good wad.
