He's not fit enough to play a full 90mins yet he looked knackered in the Fiorentina game

its a given that he must play the full game or at least start and get another 70-75 mins under his belt to ensure he fit enough for the xmas games coming up.

No, it's not a given...he doesn't look up to speed mentally yet. I would rather see him introduced after 60 minutes than start. And i'd love it if he came on when we were 3-0 up and cruising

            Ah for **** sake

You just ****ing play the fella from the start, it's the only way he'll get fitness and "up to the speed mentally"

On current form I don't see that happening for a while though...

It's a long term fitness/injury issue and rushing him in would be a bad idea. I actually also think ignoring that the best thing to do at the minute is to keep to the team we started against Arsenal - we were compact and played well at first. Aquilani will benefit from coming into a team who are playing better than we are at the minute.

**** me, you talk so much and yet know so little.

You can't chuck a player on, who has been out of football for over 8 months, and has since player less than two hours of competitive football, straight in at the deepend and expect him to be match sharp....that sort of **** easily leads to recurring injuries. Hence he gets a gradual introduction to life in football again. It's pretty ****ing simple, so even you should be able to grasp the concept eventually.

i dont agree with bringing player son after 60-70m mins to get them sharp. play from the start then after an hour run out take him off. its the only logical way IMO.

maybe thats where rafa goes wrong with torres. he gets chukced in from the start and expected to play 90 mins after 6 games out with hamstring, groin and hernia issues.

Sadly, with Torres this is more than likely true (altho 6 games is a little different from 8 months, but the principle is the same), but look at our options up front...not a lot going on there, so Torres is a risk we have to take. However, our midfield is quite capable, as in there is cover (Gerrard, Benny, Riera) for that advanced role, so we can bring Aqualani back slower than Torres.

So when exactly do you play him? He's been injury free for the best part of 2 months now, no? Hardly being chucked in at the deepend is it, as i say he's been training for nearly two months and played some parts in some matches.

It' not as if he's onl recovered from injury a week ago ffs. Rafa needs to stop pussy footing around him and wrapping him in cotton wool. It's becoming a bit tedious.

Out for 8 months plus with an ankle injury and surgery, less than 2 hours competitive football under his belt...ah **** it, lets just chuck him on the pitch, throw him in at the deep end...if he breaks down again so be it, we've only spent £17 million on him, that's nothing.

Christ, the number of times you see a player rushed back from injury either pick up the same injury again, or a new one because they've not been 100% sure of themselves and so have compensated slightly and not fully committed themselves. Much as you may find it tedious, i'd rather see Aqualani introduced slowly and be ready for the second half of the season than see him go back under the surgeons knife and not play til next year.

Apparantly Ashton rushed back after his injury, and picked up new ones because of it, all culminating in him retiring from football at the age of 26. Worth the risk? Is it ****.

Err he played 70 odds mins against Fiorentina and 30 the other day. I dont see how thats wrapping him in cotton wool.

Anyone could see he was knackered after 30 against Fiorentina. He was never starting v Arsenal. He'll now keep getting fitter, getting a few starts, a few sub appearances and be ready to go soon.
