Oh, and I'm with Pete on this one. The manager and staff will know best what is the right games to give him match fitness. He has been brought back too early before and then been injured again. Hopefully they find it fitting for him to play some part against Blackburn and Fiorentina.

To suggest his morale is affected

He'll play the full 90 against Fiorintina, as it's a dead rubber game for us. It has been a question of him getting match fitness, but we have not had a game where we could afford to carry passengers. He didn't start against Arsenal because he was just recovering. He is now recovered.

But starting an out of sorts Aquilani does no one any favours. And are recent results have been that tight that bringing him on would probably not have been the best idea.
    Forwards.......

The fiorentina match would be the best time to start him,let him play until he
      Gets tired.

City game....two early injuries, barring which i think Aqua may have got some game time.

Debrecen....would never have risked a player in a must win game (as it turns out it made no difference), a player returning from an ankle injury, on a pitch that was boggy and lumpy

Everton....we were under the cosh for most of that game, so it wasn't the match to bring him on, even at 2-0 up.

Fiorentina...meaningless game, against the eye-tyes...perfect game to give him some playing time.

Must agree with Petebest on this

It was all about beating a bruising Everton side, A very tough and demanding encounter at any time but at this point in this season a result here was vitally important to both teams.

Where would Aquilani have played? who would you have dropped? Lucas or Masherano? no fear not with the physical style of Evertons play, how about Gerrard??? what drop Stevie for the derby game??? never. So who else? Kuyt? I don't think that duracell role up and down the right that Kuyt plays would suit Aquilani especially as his first derby game so that leaves Aurelio, predominantly left sided position with left back covering responsibilities again not a role envisaged for Aquilani.

Subbing him for the last ten minutes would have done little for match fitness so there was nothing to be gained by bringing him on at the late stage.

It was a hard fought gritty game and we struggled to keep them out, no room to play nice football. The team worked very hard and deserved the win.

Aquilani's day will come and I'm hopeful he'll become a great player for us but Rafa did this one right.

But, but, but Aquilani cost £17m so he must play every game.

if he does i will be very very surprised as he has not played for a few weeks and he has not played many minutes total, yet you expect him to play 90mins and inturn do himself an injury......he needs 20/30 mins a game to build up his muscle s and overall stamina and fitness

rafa should be giving him some decent game time by now. our midfield was pretty much overrun by everton yesterday who were the better team. only some solid defending by the improving carra and dagger's composure ( not to mention reina's world class double save ) stopped everton scoring yetserday. it was a good win but IMO aquaman should have come on for either lucas or kyut at some point. only because mash was having a better game than lucas who finally looks a better player. what i still dont get though is why rafa has blown 20 mill on aquaman and as were now into december he is still to get more than 15 mins for us yet he is deemed fit enough for the bench??? if ur fit enough for the bench ur fit enough to play.

essentially it is. if ur on the bench its beacuse ur deemed fit enough to have any sort of participation in the game. otherwise at this moment in time we'd be sticking torres on the bench.

There's no fecking urgency of playing Aquilani at the moment. He's on the bench and offers an excellent option if we ever need him.
