there's no real urgency granted but our midfield sure will be much better once he's involved. it's just annoying that he's not being given any time to get his match sharpness and fitness up to a decent level before the hectic xmas period. i'd worry if lucas or mash got injured and aquaman was thrown in at the deep end having to play 5 games in 12 days or so.

He's still improving his fitness just by training. It's maybe not the best but I'm pretty sure he's getting his strength back nicely. It's better than running the risk of throwing him in when he's still not up to scratch strength wise.

haven't seen the reserves play recently so dont't know if he's gettin games there or not but maybe that would be a better place perhaps to get him match ready.

I didn't mean the reserves but general training. Drills, Gym, running and practice matches etc ...

i actually meant maybe we could play him in the reserves as it's not as fast paced or physical as the premiership.

Would he have come on if we were 1-0 down, with 20 mins to go?

If not, then I think some people may have been a little more irate and confused in Rafa's decisions and I think it's only for the fact that we won, that he gets away with leaving Aquilani on the bench again.

If, buts ... Rafa is so lucky it's untrue.

So it was the right decision

I dont see why he hasnt played him more up to now. Agree he needs match time, but can understand why he never played him yesterday - this is a derby ffs and there are hard tackles flying in all over the park, you dont throw him into the deep end like the merseyside derby, possibly the most physically damaging match of the season.

In Rafa we must trust right now. Maybe he didn't want to risk Aquilani getting an injury seeing as the game was getting pretty physical at times.

Personally I would have thrown him on to see what he is made of, for at least 20 mins.

God i hate that phrase and what about the previous 2,3,4 games......if he's on the bench give him some minutes otherwise let him build up fitness which he is lacking in the reserves

Maybe Aquilani has just been utter turd in training.
