souness was right.....we ARE in meltdown. you cant argue the fact this is an embarrassing run. if chelsea are apparently in meltdown with a run of 4 games without a win what the **** do we call a 15 match stretch of the most dire football i have witnessed.

I can't agree with that, we were ****ing dire under The Houffe for at least the last 2 years, consistently, even when we won!Originally posted by liverpooltj View PostI would have to say the days of Souness. Even Houllier didnt have a run like this and we were very **** then."that is my opinion and that is more important than what anyone else has to say about it" - Mr A.Fergusson, Oct 2011

Like Arsenal were last year? Results are simply a matter of fact, there's no debate about that. Though I still think we'll be 4th, quite easily, which just goes to show the difference between now and then. Whether we had a better or worse run of 10-12 games is one question, how few points we've ever had after 14 would be another, but the time to compare is the end of the season.
When did we play this badly or how we define this current situation are debateable. Less dire than under Houllier, with more hope and visible routes to improvement and certainly not a melt down like Portsmouth!"that is my opinion and that is more important than what anyone else has to say about it" - Mr A.Fergusson, Oct 2011

The worrying thing now is that after the result on Sunday Arsenal could be back in the title race, meaning there is only one Champions League place up for grabs with a number of teams chasing it (Us, City, Spurs and Villa)The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

In my view we have been poor all season, and I cannot remember such a long period of mediocrity. Injuries have been a problem, but the real problem is our second 11 is just not good enough. A few years ago, when we started spending £15m+ on a player, we had to stop investing £8m+ on decent reserves - and the few we have bought (eg Babel, Dossena) have turned out not to be good enough or to have permanently lost form. And another problem is that a manager who until this season seemed to be thinking and tinkering almost too much has suddenly become arthritic of thought.
The next few games could put us right back on track, but they could also cement our reputation as now being no better than an average EPL team.

Sounds right. A bit of perspective here. Since getting promoted from the old Second Division in 1962 the lowest we have finished in the table is 8th, which we did in our first season back 1962/63 and again in 1993/94. The worst stretch of finishes coincided with the Souness years where our final positions were 1991/92 6th, 1992/93 6th, 1993/94 8th.Originally posted by liverpooltj View PostI would have to say the days of Souness. Having lived through it, after our glorious Dalglish years, the Souness era was far more depressing. Although he did inherit a team that had peaked, he went about dismantling our playing style and injecting more steel - which roughly translated meant buying in a load of battlers. Cue the likes of Ruddock, Dicks et al.
We also had the long standing problem of not having a decent reliable centre back partnership which was never really solved until Houllier came along with Henchoz and Hyypia. At least now we do have decent players. Just not enough options.
