Rafa: "I can guarantee we will finish in the top four."

Rafa Benitez has issued a personal guarantee to Kopites that Liverpool will finish in the top four.

The Reds boss has moved to assure them after seeing his side slip to seventh in the race for a Champions League spot on the back of their miserable run of three wins in 15 games.

Benitez is adamant they will start picking up points now that stars like Fernando Torres are back playing.

"Every game for us is a game we have to win," he said ahead of tomorrow's clash with Wigan at Anfield.


"Our mentality is to win every game. Sometimes you and sometimes you can't.

"But you can't be negative. You have to be positive and I am really positive.

"How can I change things? By working hard every day. The players are the same as me and they are working hard every day in training.

"I can guarantee we will finish in the top four.

"If you make mistakes, you have to keep going. We still have 22 games to play. We know we have to change our target and now it's about getting three points against Wigan. If we do that, then we move on to Portsmouth.

"When you are in a bad moment, you have to keep working and concentrating on your job. I'm really pleased to be at Liverpool and I will try to stay for a long, long time."

Benitez says he is confident because he can see Torres and Steven Gerrard improving with every game after their injuries.

"I think every week they don't have any problems, they get a little bit better," he said. "That's the positive for us. If we can keep these players fit, it will be totally different for us."

Think it's going to backfire on him to be honest, bit of a silly thing to say. I am really starting to worry about Rafa now, would much rather he didn't come out with things like this.

Fair enough coming out with it about Fergie because he's a co*k but to come out and say something like this is daft.

If he had come out with a statement like this last year along the lines of "We'll win the league I'll guarantee it" then maybe we would have won the league instead of finishing second.

It's a dangerous thing to say certainly, he could have said he's confident that we'll finish in the top 4, I can imagine the press having a field day with this one if we don't. (Obviously I hope we never have to find out)

Dangerous as it gives the press more fuel to try and burn him/us down with at the next available opportunity. Rafa should be smarter than that.

Amazed some are whinging about this. Whats wrong with what he's said? He's just confident in him and his team. Dont see a problem with it, he's the one who's said it and he's the one who's getting sacked if we dont get in the top 4 so good on him.
