    Liverpool 2-1 Wigan- Post Match

    Pleased with the manager tonight. Torres was not fit so he reverted to 442 with Stevie at CM. Natural balance in the middle, natural width, 2 forwards upfront and we get the 3 points. Well played Rafa. i could argue maybe he could have took Mascher off instead of Ngog to go for the 2nd goal but we got it anyway.

    3 points in the bag, but we have to move on, and make a string of results, so the players get a bit of confidence back. but it's encouraging to see steve, aquilani and torres playing at the same time, now lets just get johnson and riera fit, and push for forth or even third spot

      I just hate the way that everyone across the middle of the pitch receives the ball, turn around themselfes to play the ball further across the field. Nobody runs forward with the ball when receiving it (just Torres & Aqua) - the rest makes that turn around-thing. It won't be long, before every defender will just stand there waiting for the turn of the Liverpool player - and nick the ball. It takes the pace of the game, makes our players so predictable - and so easy to defend against. That is why we had 15 corners - and only 4 shots (or so) inside the goalposts.

        Didn't see the game but;

        3 points is 3 points, Ngog scored and is improving, plus Torres scored again

        Still worried about our defence.

        Lets now beat Portsmouth and see if we can get a winning streak together (how many times have we said that this season?!).

          It seems hardly fathomable, apart from the 1st game of the season where Spurs beat us, which gives them a 3point lead as we stand, that would mean that from all the other Prem games we've accrued the same number of points as they have.

          And yet all i've heard for the past few weeks is how Spurs are flying, and how we've been sinking fast, which we have, and yet here we are just 3 points off Spurs, who every pundit believe have a great chance of making the top 4, they played well again tonight so i hear, and yet, as i say just those 3 points divide us, the ones from the 1st game.

          4th place is easily do-able imo.

              Aye, they haven't exactly been making hay have they, these sides, we're very much on their heels, even after such a horrendous run as we've had.

                Thought that was a good performance against a good footballing side. Manager did what most fans wanted and players for the most part performed. Ngog was outstanding i thought, very happy to see his name on the team sheet these days .. what a great young striker he is

                  To be fair (in light of some criticisms) we seemed to continue attacking looking for a 3rd when we were 2-0 up, something which should please those who accuse us of sitting back at 1-0 etc. Was good to see anyway

                    Overall quite happy with that, shame we took the shine off a bit with the late goal although it was a cracking goal .. but a good positive performance ..just so frustrating why we cant do that when it really matters .. Arsenal drawing to Burnley .. yet they can put one over us ... bring on the World Cup

                      Yeah we're still the best team, like ever aren't we.

                      We have the league in the bag.

                        In a way given the fact that we gave them a number of chances the goal might not be a bad thing - we need to keep working on defense.

                        I really think being 5pts off 3rd (admittedly with them having a game in hand) having been in the worst form I can imagine is pretty good. After this week I feel much more confident about us getting a CL place. Spurs and Villa have had as good a form as I would expect and not opened a big lead. It's annoying to be in a position looking for 3rd or 4th but given the things that have gone wrong if we can even turn in mediocre rather than ****e form we are looking pretty good.

                            At the end of the day it is what it is. We have to deal with the matter at hand and thats the team above us, we did that today and moved up the table. For now we cannot worry about what the other teams are doing only the team above us and our own results, with that in mind it was a good day at the office
