The closest we have is El Zhar so I would like to see him in the squad, Pacheco is the other obvious candidate - it's not like we have a huge array of attackers to fit in.

Seeing as he is still about I would give Babel a start to give us some added pace. I'd look to play a 4-2-3-1 but with the wide players aiming to make an attacking three with Gerrard running from deep. The choice then becomes Benayoun or Kuyt. I think I would start with the latter in the hope that we might play a lot of the game in the final third.

A 4-4-2 with Ngog and Torres up top again would be another possibility.
Ok he was being played on left hand side of midfield but wasn't really a midfielder/winger. He was more suited to a wing back role, but we don't play that system. It was a case of square pegs and round holes.

I'm not sure that players are best thought of in this way. There was an article about Capello in the Guardian a while back and how he thought of players as a set of attributes not as being defined by a position. I think Dossena had the right attributes to be an option on the wing, it is conceivable that he is better as a wing back but I don't believe that is really an issue.

The original point seemed to me to imply that we were selecting an overly defensive bench purely to put experience there rather than young players. I would contend Dossena was on the bench as he was as good an option for providing width on one flank as we had - that may well be a damning incitement of our other players but that is a separate issue.

Given that we were terrible playing 4-4-2 in the first game and Gerrard was out played by 2 rubbish Reading midfielders I would say it's pretty certain that we will play 4-2-3-1.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Aurellio next to Lucas with Babel starting on the left.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Please no, Aurelio has been poor when played there. And we have Aquilani, who should play

I think you may be asking a bit too much of Aurelio there.
