There was a moment when our flying right wing, Kuyt and Carragher, were joined by Lucas for what was the most painful 'triangle' I have ever seen. All standing still, prodding little passes to each other, before one of them gave it away, obviously. It's soul destroying.
not just in posession lad we look **** all over. Our defence is pants, our two screening midfielders arent really screening anything, our striker cum winger has pretty much no talent whatsoever and benayoun hasnt looked the same player since the serbian bird rubbed her placenta into his muscles.

We look like a disjointed, dis-spirited and generally quite piss poor team. Its hard to believe that this is the team that ran united so close last season.

      Completely agree with this.

Why else, after like ten days of training together for this match did not a single player look like they gave a **** ?

        Saw that the other night.

Very overated film, in my opinion.

and yet championship wingers can cross the ball to championship strikers being marked by "superior" defenders

admittedly there was ridiculous amounts of holding going on by their defence, but they looked more solid at the back and more threatening up front.

the only good thing I saw was Babel looking physically stronger and working harder than ever before. Apart from that, nothing. While maybe better than under Houllier, many of our lesser players are not good enough.

Gerrard can't take a corner, Reading were better.

Houllier's team was the one that very nearly pushed me away from the game altogether. That was some seriously depressing football to watch. Yet he was lauded like some kind of savior. I still maintain to this day that Roy Evas was a far far superior Manager and his team at least played the game the way Shanks would have wanted.

As I said in the match thread the problem for me is that we dominate games in terms of possession but don't create chances, we lack movement and players with pace and flair. Aquilani had alot of the ball in the second half today but we didn't move into space for him to deliver the passes. On the right hand side I lost count of the number of times players (mostly Kuyt) ran into traffic, when a switch of play would have opened up the game.

Also I like Benayoun, but I really don't think he's suited to a left sided role. He isn't a winger and more so than he does when he plays right side he cuts inside and plays more like a left sided centre midfielder. In an attacking sense we didn't use the left wing at all, we need Riera back in this position. We aren't using the long diagonal balls to switch play and open up space which were so effective for us last season. From what I saw of Aquilani today I think he can be effective for us if we us the space well.

I think Aqua looked good, passing was good and varied. Riera and Johnson back maxi playing maybe our width will open the game up. Bena through the middle with Gerrard and Babel and Kuyt back in Amsterdam enjoying the local hot spots sees me happy!

We played very entertaining football under Evans. We may have had a **** defence but we'd still score three per game

i just wish carra would do more with the ball out of defence than just play it long all the time,. our main problem is our play is so predictable it is the same moves more or less every time and it is not working.

Our other problem is that there are to many players not playing well enough whether thats down to rafa i dont no but something is just not right.

the only way i can see us doing anything to get 4th now is if we move gerrard back to midfield were he can control the play he is just to isolated playing behind torres and in turn torres is not seeing enough of the ball

For me that's a large part of the problem, due to injuries we've never really got every part of the team working at the same time. When we have width from the fullbacks, the strikers are out, when the strikers are playing the wide midfielders are out etc...

I think a large part of the problem is that so many areas of the team are changing and we don't have like for like replacements that no-one really knows what they are doing game after game.

Houllier set us up for hooding the ball for flick ons to owen toward the end. At the moment we are following a similar approach without being set up for it. This is worse.
