    Guus Hiddink

GUUS HIDDINK'S shadow was looming over Rafa Benitez last night after the former Chelsea manager Hiddink admitted he would like to return to England.

Liverpool are standing by Benitez, despite a dismal campaign which reached a new low with the FA Cup defeat by
Reading, and have not discussed his future.

Benitez’s position will only be reviewed at the end of the season, but speculation over his position will only
intensify with Dutchman Hiddink claiming he would be keen to work in the Premier League again.

Hiddink spent the second half of last season at Stamford Bridge, winning the FA Cup, and will meet Russian football
chiefs later this month after failing to guide the country to the World Cup.

“The first thing that I want to do before making any decision on my future is speak with the Russian federation
president, but it is the case that I would like to coach in England again,” said Hiddink.

Liverpool are ruling out any approach and despite Hiddink being heavily linked with taking over at Juventus, that move has not materialised.

Indeed, Roberto Bettaga, Juventus’s vice general manager, knows Benitez and may move for him if current coach Ciro Ferrara is fired.

There's another similar article in the mail. My faith in Benitez has been rock solid the past few years, but the recent performances, and poor judgement in the transfer market has left me with a few seeds of doubt.

One of the main reasons I have kept faith in Rafa is because I dont think there are any managers of the same calibur who would replace him. If Hiddink was interested in the job that would end that argument in my opinion.

Im still hoping Rafa can turn this round

He did OK last year, but he had one big big game. The Barcelona one and he ****ed that up royally.

FA Cup aside what's he won in the last 10 years? Nothing worth winning.

No doubt we'd get the new manager reaction, but that's not enough for me.

he's never been long enough at a club to prove he's shrewd in the transfer market and has a knack of building teams for the long run.
he does however tend to get the best out of a mediorce bunch - hence he'd be suited to us, lol.

Why the hell would any decent manager come to us?.

-We have two owners that can just about stomach each other.
-Everything that comes out of their mouths is lies.
-We have no new stadium, not even one under construction.
          -Feck all money.
-Champions league qualification looking decidedly dodgy.
-Average squad apart from a few
          -Feck all money

It would be a stupid move on Hiddinks part.

Did he? I'm not trying to defend Chelsea, but I can't really see how he ****ed that up. IIRC the ref did a decent job of that for. Plus, no shame in losing to Barcelona!

                ....
And therein lies the rub. Yes I reckon he'd get us playing good football and grinding out results in the first season, but after that...

Little to no experience of actually building a team for a long time. I'm not convinced he'd be the right man for the job with us in the longer term

SHOULD rafa go and hiddink was available he would be ideal to walk into our club. he wont however be the immediaye saviour of the club as there is some pretty big changes needed and IF rafa goes the whole backroom will need sorting out again.

I think we may have to pay Chelsea some compensation if we hired him now, so that rues that one out then.

Aside from the in Holland which isn't the strongest league the only things he's won is a European cup back in 1988 and the FA Cup with Chelsea, Other than numerous spells with PSV he's not been staying at clubs for long.

I'm pretty sure He had an agreement with Chelsea regarding not managing in the PL for 12 months.
