Good for you to try and find something optimistic there at the end although perhaps you are right about the luck thing. It was our luck that the chance fell to Dirk Kuyt, a player who, IMO, should not be wearing our colours or if he has to, should be taking an extended break from the team.
We weren't sitting back, it was difficult to control a game when the players aren't at their best confidence wise. We dealt really well with their aerial threat all game but we let that slip with one error. Ngog was not having a great game, he kept losing the ball and we never got to grips with our passing because of that. Our defenders coped well granted that the ball kept coming back at them, they did really well. Kyriagos did well with their aerial threat.

Now we must move on and fight on another day, not sulk in negative comments, even though you're entitled to wallow in it.

Good solid gritty performance, robbed of a clear pen by the ref, and Kuyt should have buried his chance.

We defended corners, free-kicks and throw-ins really well for the entire game, then allowed one header to carry all the way across the six-yard line to the back post to concede the goal.

Lucas had a superb game, as did Kyrgiakos and Reina. Pick any one of the three for MOM for me. Good to see Mascher back in there, but with him and Lucas you don't get any creativity down the middle. Wouldn't have mattered if we'd ground out the win though.

Thought N'Gog was dreadful, again. At one stage I thought the kid had the potential to develop into a decent player for us. Now I think he's just the new Neil Mellor. Has a knack of getting the odd goal, but his all-round play is nowhere near good enough. If Riera's fit then Aurelio has to replace Insua at left-back asap too. Yes, we look more solid with him in front of Insua, but you're sacrificing an attacking position to cover for failings at left-back.

All in all, given that most people on here seemed to be thinking we'd get beat, it's not such a bad result. Given the context of the game it's a terrible result in a game we deserved to win. I'm happy with the response from the team after Wednesday, but naturally disappointed with the result. Hopefully we can build on this for the Spurs game now.

The problem was we sat back far too much after we took the lead and invited Stoke onto us. Yes, we coped well with most of what they threw at us but our style of play was inviting them to take aim at us time after time. We only resumed shows of attacking intent after they equalised in injury time. Stoke are a physically intimidating side but they are not particularly good footballers. If we had continued to attack them after scoring we may have had more joy.

The simple term Not Good Enough is all that's needed. When that equaliser went in, I was convinced they'd score again. As a fan I should not be thinking like this. My confidence in the team and club I love is shot to pieces. It's depressing

It was never going to be a free flowing game, nobody goes to Stoke and plays like that, you have to win the physical battle and then impose your game.
Physically we done well i thought, the Greek was excellent the whole game, the problem for me was that Ngog was bullied out of it all game and id have taken him off much earlier and put Kuyt up top.
The chance at the end says it all about the player and our season.

If we are sticking with Rafa we need to make a signing that will give everyone in the squad a boost. I dread the spurs game midweek.

This is even worse than Houllier's penultimate season isn't it? Utter desolation.
                      3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I've now somehow managed to find a way to care slightly less than I used to, as it's the only way I'm going to get through all this.

If I sit back and think about it all, it actually gets me depressed, which for a game at the end of the day I'm just not willing to accept!

                            6 defenders.
                            2 holding midfielders.
                            2 useless forwards.

                            Makes me wanna cry.

Yes we didn't so what? Tough luck, rotten luck, ball hit the bar, clear penalty not given. All these things wins you game, and we aren't getting any of it at the moment. There's no magician who's going to turn around our fortunes except hard work and more performances like this at tough places like this. Hard to explain but there is a method that we need to stick at.
