Liverpool's disastrous season is all Rafa Benitez’s fault. Of course, it is.
He’s the man at the top, the one who’s made all the wrong decisions, committed all the mistakes and must now pay with his head on a Scouse platter.
But as poor old Rafa is dragged by his absurd goatee beard through the streets of Bootle, permit me to add another name to the blame game mix.
Because from where I’ve been sitting, Steven Gerrard has had an absolute mare of a season.
He’s looked bored, listless, donkey-legged, sulky and less likely to score than that Premier League man who was caught in a Thai brothel. Everyone’s talking about how disappointed they are in Benitez. But he’s had to suffer a captain who has, by his own high standards, been woeful.
And whether the Kop want to admit to themselves or not, that’s one of the main reasons Liverpool are doing so badly.
