If Rafa's to blame, then so is Gerrard

Liverpool's disastrous season is all Rafa Benitez’s fault. Of course, it is.

He’s the man at the top, the one who’s made all the wrong decisions, committed all the mistakes and must now pay with his head on a Scouse platter.

But as poor old Rafa is dragged by his absurd goatee beard through the streets of Bootle, permit me to add another name to the blame game mix.
Because from where I’ve been sitting, Steven Gerrard has had an absolute mare of a season.

He’s looked bored, listless, donkey-legged, sulky and less likely to score than that Premier League man who was caught in a Thai brothel. Everyone’s talking about how disappointed they are in Benitez. But he’s had to suffer a captain who has, by his own high standards, been woeful.

And whether the Kop want to admit to themselves or not, that’s one of the main reasons Liverpool are doing so badly.
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

Aye. It's an article from Piers Morgan...the people's champion.

No but you posted it obviously because you agree and think it makes some kind of point.

And you spend half your time telling us how ****e Gerrard is and/or that you dont like him. Hence why it's a bit tedious. Putting 'mate' in capitals, as if to add emphasis and make some sort of point, is brilliant stuff

I'm not trying to make any point regarding Gerrard, i just offer my opinion like i do with all types of matters with Liverpool FC.

I'm not the only one to ever criticise Gerrard am i? He's one of our best players ever but does that make him immune to any kind of flak?

All you see on LFC forums is 'Lucas is ****e, Kuyt has the touch of a rapist, Babel is an arrogant good for nothing prick, Carragher's finished' and all this bollocks when Gerrard's been as guilty as any of them this season yet **** all mention of it.

Its been mentioned a few times. Occasionally by yourself Marky

Gerrard has had a poor year. But our issues go far beyond his form. Personally I don't see the point in apportioning blame to everyone, it doesn't really get us anywhere in the end, but maybe that's just me.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                Mine angry and defrauded young?

I'm not saying Gerrard is immune at all, but you regularly bash him to an inproportionate level, compared to what he's done for the club.

When someone's as brilliant as SG has been, for as long as he has been, he earns a bit of leeway when it comes to this kind of thing.

To try and compare, for example, people like Lucas and Babel, or even kuyt, to Steven Gerrard, is miles off the mark.

So he can basically do what he wants...strut around the pitch in a big sulk because things aren't going his way, roar the head off young players learning their trade and look totally dis-interested?

Anyway we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Either way i honestly believe Gerrard will leave in the summer(few articles in the sunday papers re this), Rafa will be gone(as sad as it will be) and a new era at LFC will take place with fingers crossed the likes of Reina, Mascherano and Torres will lead us into.

Liverpool fans probably say this about every summer but this really is a massive one. Alot of football to be played before then though.

Where did i say he can do what he wants? You're putting words in my mouth there.

I was referring to poor form and poor displays. He, more than anyone, has earnt the right to have a bit of a dip. He's human after all, not a machine and the consistency of form he's produced over the years is sublime. I think he's basically a victim of his own world class standards.

I dont get what you said in your first paragraph - if he was dis interested, why would he roar anyone's head off? Maybe that's what you do when you care? Bit of a contradiction in your argument IMO.

I have it on good authority that Gerrard's not considering his future and that Benitez wont be sacked this summer or anytime soon, whether we get a CL place or not.

How about setting up a team that doesnt include Steven Gerrard and still do decently? How about having the balls to drop Ste Gerrard if he isnt upto the mark?

It's not about who to blame at this point of the season. All the blaming should've been done at the earlier part of the season when we were struggling in the Champions League.

Now it is about who let goes off his ego and does the right things for the club's progress.

Gerrard played only half the season up to now.

It's Rafa who buys players and picks the team!

How many times did Giggs have a bad season by his standards and Utd still won the league or at least challenged for the league?

Rafa/the americans failed Gerrard and built a team of average players!
