Thought Richard Dunne would have been a good signing for £5m at the end of last season. No one else did here though.

Crock of **** player who makes more mistakes than Bramble and actually makes McShane look (half) decent.

Prone to occasional lapses in concentration I'll grant you, but crock of **** he is definitely not.

Just because Man City couldn't see past his lack of headlines doesn't mean you have to fall into the same trap.

A far better option to have than the Greek and an absolute steel at £5m. Like I said, has his faults, but has been a very consistent Premier League centre half for the last six seasons or so, amply evidenced by the rabble City turned into at the back when tabloid heroes like Toure and Lescott got their go ahead of him. Has been a standout performer for Villa this year too and chips in with goals from corners, something we've missed since Hyypia left.

Edit: And to say he makes McShane looks decent is ludicrous mate, absolutely bonkers.

McCarthy is going to go on and become one of the best players in the World, he has that special touch & movement about him.

It would be an excellent move to sign him and loan him back to Wigan for another Season.

At least we know that Rafa knows all about him .

We'll probably offer Wigan £12m for him in three years time and he'll go to United, Chelsea or Arsenal for £15m or something

To be fair we did offer him a deal but he wanted to play football.

I hope that the club left a good lasting impression on him because as you say we will be back in for him.

McCarthy is a player i was hoping we signed,when hamilton decided to sell him.
Is he definitely now a republic of ireland player?
I saw a story somewhere about him thinking about playing for Scotland instead.
I'm sure I did a thread or 2 on him,he'll end up playing for the scum.

I think the problem with Dunne is/was that he is capable of excellence for more or less entire seasons (the one before last at City, this one at Villa have been very good) but then when he gets down (last season at City for example) he can become a pretty poor and inconsistent player. If the motivation that determined what you got was clear then he possibly has the ability to do it for a top four side, as it is I think he has found his level.

He had a choice between Wigan and Wolves mate, the impression I get is that he would only talk with clubs that where offering real first team opportunities and given his age I dont think he generated that much interest.

There is always the possibility of an agreement with Liverpool when the time is right that we dont know about.

Attitude is so important for young players to develope quickly, hes a very exciting player and your spot on Wigan seems to be the right place for him at the moment.
