I am curious to know, as I am about Dalglish and even Paisley

Well. when we signed Shankly in 1959 we were in Division 2 so hardly in a position to demand First Division title-challenging managers and signed him from Huddersfield Town, a club in the same division as Liverpool at the time, so he wasn't signed from a lower league club.

We didn't sign Dalglish or Paisley as managers from a lower league club, so I don't see the relevance of their inclusion either, so your question is a tad bizarre

Are you basing that on the way he turned Blackburn into a mid table side from relegation material, turned the Welsh from an absolute joke into serious contenders for qualification or had City higher than they'd been in the premier league for I don't know how long?

LIVERPOOL FC are ready to make the first moves to install Roy Hodgson as their new manager.

Hodgson has moved to the top of the wanted list as the club’s hierarchy seek a replacement for Rafa Benitez, who departed last Thursday after almost six years at the helm.

The Liverpool board plan to make an official approach by the end of the week to Fulham, where Hodgson has been in charge since December 2007.

Hodgson, who is expected to be offered a rolling 12-month contract, is viewed as ideal for the role, with Liverpool seeking someone to help stabilise the club after the tumultuous conclusion to Benitez’s reign.

Compensation, which could be around the £2m mark, is unlikely to prove an issue with Liverpool poised to receive settlements of their own when Benitez makes his anticipated raid on the Anfield backroom staff.

The Spaniard will be confirmed Inter Milan manager today with Liverpool assistant manager Mauricio Pellegrino, fitness coach Paco de Miguel and goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero expected to make the same journey to the San Siro.

Hodgson meets many of the criteria sought by Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow and club ambassador Kenny Dalglish, who are overseeing the search for a new manager.

The much-travelled 62-year-old has vast experience having also been in charge at Inter Milan twice, Blackburn Rovers, Udinese and the national teams of Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and Finland.

Hodgson’s stock in England rose considerably during the past 18 months when, having secured European qualification for Fulham last season, he guided the Cottagers to the Europa League final last month where they lost to Liverpool’s conquerors Atletico Madrid.

That Hodgson’s wife Sheila is from Liverpool will only add to the appeal, with the Anfield board keen to employ a British manager after the spells of Benitez and predecessor Gerard Houllier.

Hodgson was backed by Houllier earlier this week to take over, while Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer admitted he would not blame his manager for taking up the challenge at Anfield.

The likes of Louis van Gaal, Guus Hiddink, Sven-Goran Eriksson and Martin O’Neill have all been linked with the job, but Hodgson has emerged as the preferred choice.

Any new manager’s first job will almost certainly be to address the futures of a number of key Liverpool players.

And Real Madrid president Florentino Perez yesterday dropped a further hint that Steven Gerrard is a possible target.

“I think we already have stars in our squad,” said Perez. “What we are certainly going to do is sign two or three great players to complete the team.”

When asked about Gerrard and Inter Milan full-back Maicon, another rumoured target, Perez added: “We still have not discussed new signings but both are among the best players in their positions.”

Meanwhile, Martin Skrtel admits he was sad to see Benitez depart, but is determined to regain a regular starting role under a new manager at Anfield.

“Rafa was the one who had confidence in me and he was also the one who took me to Liverpool, so I can only thank him and wish him all the best no matter where he goes,” said Skrtel.

“I will train hard to show my new coach my qualities. I want to make sure that I will be a stable member of Liverpool next term.”

Skrtel is currently recuperating from an ankle injury sustained in Slovakia’s 3-0 friendly win over Costa Rica on Saturday, but expects to be fit for his country’s World Cup opener against New Zealand on Tuesday.
“It is just a sprained ankle,” said the centre-back. “I guess I can be back to full training in three or four days. It is not a serious injury.”

Wtf, they'll have to be replaced wont they ? ffs this is very depressing. Just can't belive what is happeneing to this club, Purslow, Broughton, Hicks and Gillett all conspiring to get the best out of the club to fulfill their own and their bossess interests, noone worrying about the heart of the club at all.

Feels like LFC has been invaded by self serving lunatics.

Even looks like Dalglish is in disagreement with them now as to what's best for LFC, if he leaves, then maybe Sammy, that'll be it....not that either have any power, and they certainly wont be told everything by the suits anyway.

The future of the club is more important than risking someones 'legacy'.
We need stability and intelligence. Kenny Dalglish knows football better than anyone, he is one of the smartest and most astute men in british football today.

He is the man I would trust to get us playing football properly and drag us back from the hellish tactics of last season. We sunk so low last season that I can only see someone as shrewd as Kenny turning it around and saving us

I honestly don't think they are a bad bunch.

Dalglish, Hodgson & O'Neill are all more than capable of managing us in our current situation.

I'm genuinely excited about a new manager, no more rafa or pelligrino. I can't wait for the new season to start. **** the world cup, cancel it.

I think it such a backward step that it could ultimately be the deciding factor in whether our top players stay, if we got a Lippi for instance, i could see Torres, Gerrard etc being keen to work with him, i just don't see the allure of Hodsgon being anything like the same.

I mean all those who wanted Rafa gone were coming up with names like Hiddink, Maureen, now they try to tell us they are happy with Hodgson, it's a disaster, and exactly what some said would happen when a new manager was talked of, we wont replace Rafa with a top manager, oh yes we will they said....lfc can attract the best....well lets hope all this Hodgson stuff is just a smoke screen for what's really going on i say, but i really doubt it is.

I just hope we get to keep all our best players and maybe add one or two more, but yeah I do think that any of those three, woy mon or Kenny will do better IF we keep the squad in tact, should we wait until after the WC when there maybe a couple more managers on the market?? We should not rush it, I don't think many players will be bought or sold before then anyway.
