How the hell you've come to the conclusion he's an outstanding candidate I'll never know. He's never won a trophy outside Scandinavia and is in his 60s! He cant win away from home, has already been sacked from one club in this league, doesnt use young players and well.. outstanding he certainly isnt.

He's got some decent aspects to him but if the likes of him are now our ambition then its horrifying.
if thats what you read into my posts fair enough. The fact I praise the likes of Torres, Agger, Babel etc you choose to ignore? I use the generic term 'foreign' because I'm not going to type French, Spanish, German etc everytime.

When I look at managers, I look at what they are getting out of their resources. Since the big four have most of the trophies tied up, not winning a trophy is hardly a surprise for anyone at a smaller club. Then you have Harry Redknapp who has only won one FA Cup in his entire management career yet does that mean he's a poor manager?

I honestly hand on heart can't see why in the present position of having **** owners, no money and no CL football anybody would want to bring in a manager from abroad that has no experience of this league. It would be nothing short of madness.

The problem as I see it is that he is not a big name likely to help keep the players we have or attract big names. His training is reported to be boring and repetitive which is fine when your team has lowly aspirations but I think it will be hard to impose such a regime on better quality players with bigger egos.

His tactics are if anything more defensive than Rafa's and he has been less flexible - 4-4-2 with 'inside-out' wingers on rare occasions putting Duff on his natural wing. People seem to have been hoodwinked into believing that because he has two up front and his team are neat passers that they are actually an attacking team.

That description seems a bit harsh in that it is only highlighting the negative points. He has got the most out of a bunch of unfancied players and got them over performing and seemed to develop the odd young player.
He would've adopted tactics suitable to Fulham, and given the lack of top quality players, i wouldnt expect him to go out and try to attack teams.

I'm fairly sure he'd adopt a system that he feels correlates well with the quality of players he has at his disposal.

I do worry about his ability to attract top players and keep the ones we already have, though.

Still, it's not set in stone yet. He wouldnt be my first choice, but equally, i do also think he's a good manager.

if you know hodgson was going to be the replacement, would you still have wanted rafa sacked?

We have some decent young players coming through and a manager who can make the most of them given the likely straightened financial situation is key. It's one area I'm not sure of Hodgson in. He seems to have a decent reputation with the likes of Smalling being spotted and developing under him but there seem to be very few young players in a Fulham team at any point during his reign.

In the end I will give whoever comes in a fair chance unless they are an odious prick like Alladyce. Whilst Roy is far from my first choice I don't think he is the disastrous choice that some seem keen to paint him as.
I know where you are coming from pragmatically speaking - I like him as a bloke & I'm sure he is a half decent manager. BUT I'm still far to bitter to accept this as our reality & new level of "ambition."

13 months ago, we had (arguably) the best passer, defensive midfielder, attacking midielder & striker in the world. Now, we are looking at losing them all because of a debt we should never have had in the 1st place & were lied to about. Completely unaccpetable.

I know he isnt the exciting foreign type and he probably offers more stability and calmness, than flair. But he over achieved with Fulham and if he did the same with us, we're looking at a potential title challenge.
Cant see us challenging for any titles anytime soon no matter who is manager

As for Woy overachieving at Fulham - did he really do that he finished 12th behind Stoke and Blackburn

I dont think Woy overachieved I think he did an ok job no more no less

Overachieving to me is what Ipswich did a few years ago, or Moyes did a few years back when he got 4th

Well I'm still hoping for a surprise. Have a few bets on other options:

£1 on Sven at 20/1 (not hoping for this one obviously)
              £1 on Fabio at 40/1
              £1 on Lippi at 80/1

              More in hope than expectation.

not to do with Rafa securing 7th position? no blame at his door?

Sky Sports New reporting Liverpool are Sounding out Frank Rijkaard

Skysports.com understands Liverpool have lined up a move for Galatasaray boss Frank Rijkaard as they search for a new manager.

The Reds are still hunting a replacement for Rafa Benitez following the Spaniard's departure from Anfield earlier this month.

A number of names have been linked with the Anfield hot-seat, including Fulham boss Roy Hodgson and former Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini and now Rijkaard has come under consideration from the Liverpool board.

Former Holland international Rijkaard is regarded as one of the best coaches in Europe following his success at Barcelona, where he won two Spanish titles and the UEFA Champions League during his tenure at Camp Nou.

                    Compensation
Sources in Turkey claim Liverpool have approached Galatasaray twice in the last week to seek permission to talk to Rijkaard, but that the Turkish club have rejected their overtures.

Rijkaard, who took over at Galatasaray in June 2009, has just a year to run on his current deal, meaning Liverpool may not have to fork out a high compensation fee if they can agree a deal with Galatasaray for the 47-year-old.

The Dutchman is believed to be keen on managing in the Premier League at some stage in his career, but Galatasaray are reluctant to lose his services.

Liverpool are keen to sort out their managerial situation as soon as possible and they could be forced look elsewhere if Galatasaray fail to release Rijkaard.

A Europa League final with that squad? The fact that he managed to do this and keep Fulham well away from the drop zone all season he a fantastic acheivement. Compare to Rafa's last season. Mmmmm.

Neither of them will bring that

ANY managerial appointment under our current circumstances can achieve little

                        We have no money

We have major players disillusioned with the club

We have fans in open revolt at the ownership

Any manager coming in has to firstly persuade the star players to stay and secondly to galvanise the full support of the fans behind them

I dont see Roy achieving any of those two things and thats before we even examine his managerial record which is anything but outstanding

Hold him partially responsible for our dire laegue position last year, but Im sure Torres & Gerrard would hang around another year were we looking to recover & rocket back up. Masher might leave for personal reasons, aye but we should be replacing him with quality & adding to the squad too.

I have a feeling it won't be Roy. Don't know why, but I just have a feeling it would have been completed by now. I think smoke and mirrors and soiled panties are the order of the day.

We've just sacked a manager who won the Champions League with a ****e squad, got to another final, regularly got us into the semis and now we are on the brink of bringing in another manager because he managed to get them into a UEFA final and finish 12th in the league

                              Do me a favour

Good managers dont swap clubs every 5 seconds remind me how many jobs hes had in the last 10 years

Nothing and nobody will convince me that Hodgson is a good enough candidate for the LFC job and I think a lot of fans feel the same

Nice fella and I respect him but for Liverpool no thanks

I don't think they have to do either at least straight away. they need to build a decent team and win games and preferably remain dignified whilst doing it. I think Roy could probably do that.

Given the situation we are in we probably have to adjust our aims accordingly.
