No manager worth his salt, would stick around if owners were buying players for him. Least of all someone as stubborn and proud as rafa. He had the support of the Valencia fans too, but he left. He even expressed that the purchasing of players he didnt want, played a part in his reason to go.

You can type 'nope' all you like, but it doesnt change that.

If it was a choice between Rafa going or Gerrard going for £30m then right now I'd let Gerrard go. He has been a disgrace this season.

Of course, motivating players isnt the manager's business, is it?

Its exactly the same with the Klinsmann talks. Why didnt he leave then? a proud man as you say and the owners talking behined his back to Jurgen Klinsman? then give the most pathetic excuse, he has good contacts with Adidas and Reebok and Nike! what we gona have the three stripes of Adidas on our kit and the Nike tick also with the reebok logo? Granted the owner goin above his head and buying a player is wrong and yes would have hurt Rafa. But talking to Jurgen Klinsman about becoming manager behined his back is far worse.

It's not the same at all. The Klinsmann talks came and went. Nothing tangible changed.

Buying a new player the manager doesnt want, is a tangible change, which affects a whole number of different facets of the job.

Once again, when explaining why he left valencia:

"I asked for a table and they bought me a lamp."

No it isn't, they are wearing the shirt and that should be motivating enough. Players aren't like sheep, or maybe you think they are.

So motivating players isnt in any way, part of a football manager's job. All because of that shirt. What if they're not Liverpool fans, but just players? What if they dont attach the same sacred level of emotional attachment to the shirt? Then what?

And 'motivational' team talks are a figment of my imagination then, are they?

Absolute whopper of a comment on your part. If i didnt know better, i'd honestly think your posts were some kind of elaborate prank or windup.

I dont dismiss them, but over the course of time, it passes and there is no tangible impact. Nobody 'wants' it to happen, but it doesnt leave a permanent impact to the actual TANGIBLE part of the job.

Buying a new player that the manager doesnt want, most certainly does.

I always thought that 'motivational talks' and all that bollocks were an utter farce. Do you need motivation to wake up every day and walk your way to your job? What's different from a footballer's perspective (or any other job)? It should be easier for a professional footballer as they are getting paid for playing ****ing football.

It's a fact of life though Will. We see things through the eyes of fans, and in the case of maybe 90% of footballers, it's entirely different.

Ok, which of those would have hurt Rafa most?

You think a footballer's job is just the same as any other normal job, like mine or yours? ****ing hell. Even despite the differences though, managers in loads of 'normal' jobs DO indeed say or do things to motivate their staff. It's a fact of life, i've seen it happen at various times, in every single job i've had.

Why do managers bother spending time in the dressing room before the game and at half time then? Tactical instructions dont take the entire 15 minutes interval.

Why do you suppose managers get asked, after a bad result, "how do you go about getting their heads up again and getting the players positive again?"

Honestly mate, i mean no malice in this, but you really do come out with some utterly utterly clueless nonsense sometimes.

The notion that motivating his squad plays no part in a manager's role, is one of the all time classics.
