Rafa said that he was happy having N'Gog, Kuyt and Babel as back-up to Torres. We all knew he was wrong then, and we really know it know. He should have strengthened up front, he didn't, and it will ultimately be the end of Rafa.

Rafa to blame for all this

I still think the main problem was that we didn't have enough goals in the team. Playing Kuyt upfront is fair enough but it robs us of a goal threat from midfield. I'd have rather we added someone there to be honest.Originally posted by Parr_Zee View PostRafa said that he was happy having N'Gog, Kuyt and Babel as back-up to Torres. Still, however you slice it we were light in nearly every area of the squad this season with a particular problem in terms of goal scorers. I still think though that the porous defence early in the season is what really cost us."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Maybe, just maybe Rafa said that because he knew he didn't have the funds to buy a quality back up so chose not to humilate those 3 by saying "Listen we all know they aren't good enough but I have no more money so they will have to do"Originally posted by Parr_Zee View PostRafa said that he was happy having N'Gog, Kuyt and Babel as back-up to Torres. Ha Ha - Michael Owen was available on a free.
If he wasn't happy with his striking options, he didn't have to come out and say he was happy. I love the way that when Rafa says something people want to hear, its the truth, but if he says something that doesn't fit their agenda, then he must be hiding the truth or have some other agenda.

What manager is going to come out at the start of the season and say that he doesn't have confidence in his players?Originally posted by Parr_Zee View PostHa Ha - Michael Owen was available on a free.

i think we are linked with everyone who is even half decent, however i would fully expect us to have monitored aqua for some time given how well he was playing for Roma before he got injuredOriginally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Posti was meaning the obvious wind up merchants you meet face to face or "WUMS" that are on here at times. by true fan i wasnt saying "i'm more of a fan than you" etc.....
got to disagree there. the rumours about signing aqua came around long before we had sold alonso ( dating back the previous summer ) which makes me think he was always a target of rafa's.
johson had been courted by the arse and chelseas when we got him so again i think these players were rafa's main targets.
the bit about being given 35mill cash, well most transfers these days are payment plan deals. you very rarely find a straight cash deal for players ( ronaldo to real was the exception but that was due to manure wanting to service some of their debt too )
I understand that few transfers are straight cash but the transfer of aqua was pretty long winded to say the least
With regard to Johnson, we certainly wanted him........ but did we want him for 17m? did we take into consideration we might not get the 11m for crouch for some time (if at all) if we didnt do this?
Given that our net spend over 2 years has been 0 the missing money for crouch became even more important and led us into a position where by all our eggs were in a few baskets of players who were injuired for long periods

I know what you mean. We insisted on cash up front for Alonso and paid for Aquilani in installments and wrote off money owed to pay for Johnson. While to some extent it doesn't matter (alot of deals are done this way), and we have to pay the fee eventually, it does make you wonder if Rafa's hands were tired to some extent in that he was limited to deals with clubs who would accept such terms. Effectively the money made available to him last summer was alot less than it might appear.Originally posted by Dirk07 View Posti think we are linked with everyone who is even half decent, however i would fully expect us to have monitored aqua for some time given how well he was playing for Roma before he got injured

It's not as simple as that though, in saying he has confidence in them, he gives them confidence which strikers thrive on, in the hope that it will lift their performance.Originally posted by Parr_Zee View PostIf he doesn't have confidence in them, then don't say anything. 1. He would have played more games for usOriginally posted by Shaggy View PostYep, his three league goals would've made a priceless contribution to us.
2. He has 9 goals in 11 starts (all comps)
3. He is a damn-side more dangerous in the box than N'Gog, Kuyt and Babel put together, and mulitplied by 3.
My point being that people can't use the excuse that Rafa couldn't get anymore forwards in - hence, him being "happy" with his options.
