    Spearing goes on loan

    ...to Leicester

    From beeb:

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has completed the loan signing of Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing.

Spearing has joined until the end of the season and could feature in Wednesday's home Championship fixture against Reading.

Chairman Milan Mandaric told the club website: "Jay is a great signing and that should be a big help to us."

The 21-year-old made his senior debut as a substitute in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven in December 2008.

Adademy product Spearing has made five appearances for the Reds with his only Premier League start coming against Sunderland in October 2009.
    Good opportunity.

Is Dave Martin still there? Ajdarevic went there too - is he still around? Hobbs definitely is. At least he'll know one or two.

Good move for him, he won't make it here.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Leicester look a good side this year. Play good football and have a defensive partnership of one former Cambridge and one former Liverpool player. No matter what happens to him in the future Spearing definitely needs to be playing competitive first team games somewhere now to progress.

        Martin is at Derby FWIW.

Not true of Kelly though is it?

hmm why? cause he has made 3 appearences for Liverpool. - Maybe if he goes on to make 50, then great i'd be made up - but i'd be shocked if he did. So if Martin Kelly is the one success story, of a player from liverpool going out on loan and then making it - should we list the not so successful

It's probably for the best, the way things are going at the moment it's unlikely that any of the kids are going to get games this season, if we'd still been in the CL he'd have stayed as he was on the CL squad list, but first team football are what these guys need at the moment.

The point being that he wasn't being written off by going on loan which was the implication of your post. In fact he is at the head of the queue in terms of youth coming through to the first team with Pacheco and ahead of the likes of Spearing and derby who until now haven't been on loan.

Yes but as we did last time I could make a longer list of players who haven't gone on to make it having not gone on loan. Thus strongly indicating that the premise of the argument by list you put forward is deeply flawed.

                        - well for me personally - i have seen nothing to suggest anything other than, once a lad is sent on loan that's pretty much the end.

I hope am i wrong, 'd love to see a few of these lads make it - but it doesn't seem to be the case - either they are not good enough to step up, rafa doesn't trust them or whatever i don't know - but we seem to have had a steady line of 'up and coming' youth players, that get bandied about as ones to look out for, come into the 'melwood' set up - and by time they turn 20 are lucky to have feautered a few times at most and then get loaned out for a season or two to various players until we convince a club to give us a couple of hundered grand for them

ah yes i remember it now haha

in fact - i will just sum this up - no-one is going to come through and make it, regardless of being sent out on loan or not.

i give you insua as my arguement forawrd as youth player, not sent on loan, stayed with the squad and has broken through.

I'm not sure this isn't just the fact that people get over excited about players whose ability is roughly that of Welsh (the new Gerrard supposedly) and shockingly aren't actually very good at youth scouting. We haven't developed many first team ready young players for a good number of years. I tend to think that the problem with us getting none into the first team has been about quality of players in those youth/reserve teams.

I think there is a real question of what sort of time period we have to develop players - Hobbs looks like a very good player now but it took two years of first team football to get him to that standard. Could we have kept him an loaned him that many times without him becoming dissatisfied? I guess there are pros and cons to loans but I think trying to make broad assumptions about the fact that they are the end of a players career with us is mistaken. Especially as I have said before I think that Rafa feels players are developing until about 23.

At other clubs differing outcomes are evident - for united for example Shawcross went on loan and then was sold, Evans went on loan and now forms a valuable part of their squad.
