Tell you what, 4th is as we know nothing to aspire to, but by god if we were to get it this season it wont half feel glorious.....to stick it to so many people..pundits..players...clubs....everyone who's had a go.. tried to derail us or disrespected us....aye, that would be sooooo good.

I hate the way Rednapp uses his links to the club to give himself some credability in promoting his own agenda

Redknapp played with Gerrard when he was still a burgeoning talent so he wouldn't know **** all what were his best attributes back then. He's clearly a clueless moron.

        Rafa

        ESPNsoccernet: England

        Monday, March 29, 2010

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has hit back at the continued criticism aimed at him mostly by ex-players who are now pundits.

Plenty of former Reds stars have secured work in the media and Benitez has had to listen to them giving their opinion on what has been a disappointing season.

However, he felt the need to respond to the comments of former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp after the 2-1 defeat at Manchester United.

Redknapp, a close friend of Steven Gerrard, criticised Benitez for moving the England midfielder to different positions as they chased an equaliser late on.

To back up his assertion that Liverpool were a weaker team than the previous season he referenced the influence of Xabi Alonso, sold to Real Madrid in the summer, in the 4-1 win at Old Trafford last March. That finally prompted Benitez into a response.

"I was surprised to see some comments by some experts talking about how they could see Alonso playing in the 4-1 win against United - he didn't play,'' Benitez said, referring to the fact the Spain midfielder was injured.

"This expert said he (Gerrard) cannot play on the left but he is playing with the national team on the left. He was playing here on the right and scoring 23 goals so Gerrard can play everywhere. It depends on the team.

"I told him before the Sunderland game he was playing in the middle and he was happy. He can help the team and that is the main thing.''

Despite the praise for their first-half performance in the 3-0 win over Sunderland Benitez said his tactics had not changed much. Playing Gerrard in a more orthodox central midfield position is something he has done before this season but yesterday was just one of those days when all the players hit top form.

"With the same tactics we scored more goals than anyone in the Premier League last year and more goals than anyone in England two years ago,'' Benitez said. "It is a question sometimes of accuracy, pass completion or just a little bit of luck.''

Was it during the United game when Gray was talking about Lucas great performance against Portsmouth?
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

The thing that annoys me most is that there will be absolutely zero come back for Redknapp. He can sit there in his ivory tower and basically say whatever the **** he wants. Time and time again it has been shown that his opinions dont stand up under scrutiny. It was the same hypocritical bollocks when Keane wasn't playing for us. Oh but when pappa Redknapp does the same, little Redknapp loses 'impartiality.'

Terrible pundit. Cliched opinions. He should Thomas Cook it back to Greece, the ******.

And the same goes for Stan Collymore.

In a case of justified irony, (I could be wrong here) but it seems Michael Owen will finally be part of a title winning team. However he surely hasn't played enough games to receive a winner's medal. Shame!

Nice rant. Totally agree with the sentiment.

Rather surprisingly he's actually made 19 league appearances for them, so qualifies comfortably. We'll just have to hope Chelsea can scupper things for him!

Rafa Benitez hits out at ex-Liverpool FC pundits

RAFA BENITEZ today slammed a number of ex-Liverpool FC players who continue to criticise the club through their roles as pundits.

The most recernt source of the Reds manager's fury was comments made by former Anfield star Jamie Redknapp in the wake of the 2-1 defeat at Manchester United.

Redknapp was particularly damming of Benitez's decision to move captain Steven Gerrard into different positions during the game as the hunted an equaliser and also claimed Liverpool were a weaker side than the one who beat their bitter rivals at Old Trafford last season.

The summer sale of midfielder Xavi Alonso, Redknapp claims, has been a major part of the decline in performances but Benitez hit back.

Benitez said: "I was surprised to see some comments by some experts talking about how they could see Alonso playing in the 4-1 win against United – he didn’t play.

“This expert said he (Gerrard) cannot play on the left but he is playing with the national team on the left.

“He was playing here on the right and scoring 23 goals so Gerrard can play everywhere. It depends on the team.

His problem is that he tries too hard to be unbiased.

He will be a good pundit, you will not find one pundit that football fans all like.

I think it's way too early to judge Roy's transfer deals, he's only signed two(??) players while he's been here, (Cole and Wilson). While he did well to sign Cole, that to some extent was determined by circumstances, i.e. Cole being out of contract. And both he and Wilson were linked to the club before Roy came in iirc, you would hope he had the final say on whether they came or not, but IMO we need to wait alot longer before we judge how he has performed in the transfer market.
