    Why

Every time I've seen him play he has been average at best, and I have seen him play a lot this season.

Pacheco is classed as home grown from this summer so he should be in the squad as a back up striker...maybe even as a replacement for Ngog if the right bid came in for him - he's to old to be classed as home grown.

          Plessis - £2m

          El Zhar - £5m

          Total £42m. FORTY TWO MILLION!!

You might as well added a few zeros to that fantasy, no way will we get 42million if we sold that lot, reckon we would be lucky to hit 30m.

so, I would sign Taiwo for left back, if we couldn't sign him i'd take a look at Roberto Canella.

            Kjaer for centre back

Arda or Pablo Hernandez (from Valencia) for the right hand side - I'd have him and Maxi fighting it out for first choice.

I'd go all out for Mezmut Ozil or Ashley Young for the left hand side, with someone promoted from the reserves or a young english player signed as back up.

I'd sign Yoann Gourcuff from Bordeaux as a new central attacking midfielder as Gerrards long term replacement

I'd go for for Villa or Dzeko to play alongside Torres, with Jovanovic as back up alongside Ngog - or replace him with a homegrown player.

            I would sell:-

            Kuyt
Benni (we'd get a good price)
            Babel
            Reira
            Aureilo
            The Greek
            Degen
            Spearing
            Plessis
            and a few others.

I estimate those players would cost £90m - £100m minus what we would get for sales...£35m - £40m??

So we only need £55m - £60m and we'll win the league!

            With investment, champ manager style:

            David James £3m
            Lahm £18m
            Kjaer £12m
            Turan £13m
            Juan Mata £18m
            Silva £20m

            Total £81m

Adding those that we've supposedly already signed/agreed to sign for what, £7m, then we're talking £80m and that's without the sales of, and this is MY fantasy so **** off:

            Skrtel - £6m
Degen - pack of pork scratching
            Benny - but £10m
            Babel - £10m
Aurelio - 4 rolls of Elastoplast and an ankle grip
            Spearing - £2m
            Plessis - £2m
            Riera - £7m
            El Zhar - £5m

            Total £42m. FORTY TWO MILLION!!

An outlay of approx £40m, and our squad , 1st XI & backup would look like:

            ---------------------- Reina / James

            Johnson / Kelly --- Carra / Kjaer --- Agger / Wilson- -- Lahm / Insua

            ---------------------- Masher / Lucas --------------------------

            ------- Gerrard / Shelvey ----------- Aquilani / Other --------

            ----- Turan / Kuyt / Maxi ---------------- Mata / Jovanovic /

            -----------------Jovanovic / Torres / N'Gog -----------------

Look at that formatting!! LOOK AT IT!!!!!!!

I know it's only fantasy and that, but how would signing all these foreign superstars affect our homegrown quota? Obviously we'd be shipping out some crap to make room, but don't we need to increase our quota of homegrown players in all this?

no more debt and new stadium. dream about this, no debt and a new stadium, we would be able to pump our millions of profits into transfers that are currently being used on debt financing, plus we will have bigger profits from a bigger stadium, think arsenal but with more money to spend, with the new youth policy we wont need start singing as regularily but when we do we can self fund, we dont need an arab giving us millions just someone to cover the debt and the stadium

edit: sorry i didnt notice the forget stadiums and debt, in that case david silva to play in SG's position SG back to midfield and then juan mata on the left, lahm at left back and we should be sweet

Of the players Fierce listed only 14 wouldn't count as homegrown (even if "other" were to be included in that, we are allowed a max of 17.

We need 8 "home grown players" in a squad of 25:-

                  Pachaeo
                  Insua
                  Carragher
                  Johnson
                  Gerrard
                  Shelvey
                  Kelly
                  Wilson/Robinson/Amoo/Ayala

Ideally we should sign one or two more (I think a back up left winger could be a good position to have a look for someone)...

I'm not sure we need 8 homegrown players, we are just limited to a max of 17 non homegrown players.

Players under 21 don't count in either quota so Pacheco, Shelvey, Kelly, Wisdom Robinson Amoo and Ayala can all play but don't need to occupy one of the homegrown spots, they are eligable for the additional U21 quota. We can have the likes of Spearing Darby etc included to give us additional numbers.

Thanks, I'm still not sure that I totally understand the whole rule even though you've done a damn fine job of trying to explain it to us all

In that case then, let's dream away

We have to name a 25 man squad of which only 17 players can be over 21 and not home grown...so 8 have to be home grown..

Wilson isn't classed as home grown as he's Scottish.

A home grown player has to spend 3 seasons at a english club under the age of 21...So Insua and Pachaeo are home grown, as is Ayala.

New stadium is a priority, build that and the longterm future of the club is sorted. I'd like us to start to really develope the youth setup with a eye on getting more talented local lads in( i hear that most go to the bitters?) couple of key signings, mainly down the left and a second striker.

Sorry yes you do need 8 homegrown players apparently, we have: Gerrard, Carragher, Johnson, Insua, Darby, Spearing, Nemeth and Plessis.

I guess we can include the likes of Kelly, Pacheco etc as homegrown players in the 25 but there is an advantage in not doing so (we can have an additional player).

Players under 21 don't count in the 25 man squad but can play. Wilson is 18 so although scottish players don't count as homegrown, he can be an additional U21 player and could count as homegrown when he reaches 21 (as he'll have been here 3 years).

You chaps really need to get out more. What started out as a fantasy thread has turned into a conversation about the fine detail of UEFA regulations.
                              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
