hehe, yeah too right...take a feather with you fellas and tickle the information out of him...Originally posted by Craig_H View PostThat's all good, but it didnt stop you lot making a debacle of the Purslow affair and completely antagonising him.
Even your questions to Broughton were unnecessarily aggressive - things like 'would you consider a fan stake in the club? If not, why not?' - he hadnt even said no at that stage.
Too confrontational IMO and in my experience, you dont get too far in life by being that way. Especially when you want things from other people.
yes i know what you mean..

'the famous mystery musician'.... if you read into the link he's third up from the bottom of the page ....... you'll probably find he's the only musician thereOriginally posted by TheElephantMan View PostI'd wager it's this one?

on craig h's analogies ... my answer would be ... you can please some of the people ,some of the time ... if someone is going around the club calling you and your fellow members 'sons of strikers' then you'll understand our suspicions , his conduct towards us ,is at best 'questionable'...
on the minutes ,he agreed to everything being on the record ... he attempted to renege on transparency even knowing the meeting had been recorded .... dodgy ground right there
in my experiences with these people in high level management , they will let you hear what you want to hear ... see tom & george
read the broughton letter again craig ,
it took best part of the day to draft with 14 management committee members all contributing in the output of the finished letter
it wasn't just rummaged together of the top of 1 persons head in their tea break
but its easy for us to lament behind a keyboard here is it not

Nobody's lamenting, i was just offering an opinion. Do you only want favourable opinions?Originally posted by merlboo View Post'the famous mystery musician'.... if you read into the link he's third up from the bottom of the page ....... you'll probably find he's the only musician there

In some ways recent events have made me more sympathetic to SoS in the sense that Purslow does appear to be a complete snake. However I do think the way that situation was handled he came out looking better than SoS and the general tone of things like that letter do seem to say "we are special, treat us differently" which doesn't help.Originally posted by merlboo View Post'the famous mystery musician'.... if you read into the link he's third up from the bottom of the page ....... you'll probably find he's the only musician there

I'm not sure I really object to pointed questioning but I do wonder what it is hoped will be achieved. It's not as if anyone involved is suddenly going to change their plans of how to get money out of the club because a supporters group catches them with a cunning question.
The talks with the PL seem to be move in the right direction in some ways. Getting people to put pressure on G&H and possibly to use regulation to prevent it happening again or getting worse seems a reasonable route even if I suspect that the PL with have little or no sympathy with the position of regular supporters. At least it is courting the right sort of publicity."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

.
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Not sure that's true. He only came out of it looking better if you chose to believe his account (which many here did). Given that it now appears reasonable to suggest that Purslow is not being completely straight in his dealings with Rafa / the media, it doesn't take a massive leap of faith to assume that his version of the meeting was heavily spun.
As for being treated differently, SOS are the only group asking for some kind of accountability from the owners. That is their whole point. It's not just another supporters' club, it's a pressure group with defined objectives. As such I think it's fair to ask for answers to questions that no-one in the club seems willing to publically acknowledge.

Well, the Purslow thing can be easily rectified...SOS claim to have a tape of the meeting, and i see nothing to gain from keeping it back, so why don't they release it and discredit Purslow. Unless the recording was made with CP's consent, and then it's illegal and would make SOS look like the bad guys even more.
Yes SOS have the right idea, get H&G out, but they just go about it the wrong way, antagonistic instead of business like. When asked what they've done, Merlboo seemed to take great delight in telling us they'd stopped the americans attending games, and once manged to get them to require a police escort...bravo, that achieved what exactly? They know they ain't wanted, and they don't care. They won't be forced out by the fans not liking them, they will only go for money reasons, and money reasons alone. A billboard here, a disgruntled fan there...what do the american's care about that? Nada.

Every single supporter of another club who saw anything to do with it thought SoS made Liverpool supporters look like clowns. Even those who are broadly sympathetic.Originally posted by zimbo View PostNot sure that's true. He only came out of it looking better if you chose to believe his account (which many here did). Even if you were sceptical of Purslow the was SOS came out with it made it look like they were trying to stab him in the back in my opinion. In hindsight it looks like he was trying to stitch them up but ....
But why would anyone listen to them at the club more than any other supporters group? I understand that their purpose is different, what I don't understand is what makes them think that the club would and possibly even should treat them differently, especially as the one thing the board knows about them is that they are hostile to them and that no matter what they say they will not be able to placate them. At the end of the day they are just another supporters group from the point of view of the owners and board.Originally posted by zimbo View PostAs for being treated differently, SOS are the only group asking for some kind of accountability from the owners. I think a twin strategy is required. A supporters group - ideally unified, although it seems SOS would have to change if they are to form the basis of that - is fine as a focus for the long-term and off-pitch.Originally posted by dww View PostBut why would anyone listen to them at the club more than any other supporters group? The other thing is unqualified support for the one person high up in the club who we can be certain shares essentially the same ambitions as the fans in the short to medium-term - success on the pitch. That, of course, is Rafa Benitez.Last edited by Neil Young; 13-05-10, 12:12 PM..

it is more of a duty to my beliefs about where the club's heading and were we're at .... at the moment
the Supporters Union considers itself the vanguard to this end and thats about as bluntly as i can put it
one other of your points i'll pick up on is
do you think they'd still be swanning around Anfield if the pressure from ourselves wasn't forthcoming ?
theres one thing knowing you might not be welcome [grumbling on forums]
theres another enforcing it

Not having a pop at the letters that have been drafted but there are some spelling and grammar errors in there. That alone will make you look unproffesional especially to someone like Martin Broughton.Originally posted by merlboo View Post'the famous mystery musician'.... if you read into the link he's third up from the bottom of the page ....... you'll probably find he's the only musician there
