Is the club profiting from Hillsborough ?

This is really low even for the greed driven by our american owners.

I apologise if its been posted elsewhere.

The JFT96 tops should be given away free to anyone who wants one.

if the store manager had the power to remove them, i reckon it's no more insidious than her idea. not positive, but doesn''t go all the way to the top, just a dumb call by a store employee.

the club would sell no shirts at all and need to make loads more shirts at the clubs expense if that was the case. Certainly an argument for offering the lettering free, or at cost, if someone buys a plain shirt.

As said on the Raotl thread, if someone wants to pay to have Justice on the shirt then thats fair enough but for the club to have them on sale next to Gerrard and Torres shirts etc is ****ing appaling

          £54

They obviously get a lot of requests for them and so a store employee put them out without thinking it through. Take them down, apologise through official club statement, and make a donation to hjc. No need to get hysterical about it IMO, as long as they do the right thing now.

Form my limited understanding of this so far...

The club shops sell personalised shirts and a lot of people pay to have Justice 96 on there - fair enough.

The club shops stockpile popular personalised shirts to save time for when people want them - fair enough.

The club shops actively display the Justice 96 shirts for sale - completely out of order because this is clearly now marketing a Hillsborough 'product' for profit.

This one I'm unsure of, but it seems from what I've read they are also being sold at a higher price?! Is this true? Is £54 what it would come to anyway according to how lettering and numbering is charged for, or are they actually saying these in particular sell well and we want to use that fact to make even more money than we already are doing through marketing them in store? If that IS what has happened, it's sickening, but I'd like to know for sure.

i mis-read the article. i thought they were selling tops (not replica kits) with JFT96 on.

Hardly likely to be a ploy from those two in reality, too smallfry for them to be involved.

I bought the new top a few weeks ago and CHOSE to put Justice 96 on the back as a mark of respect and the fight for justice and to think the club have done this to make a profit is ****ing shocking and makes me sick. LFC will be dead to me if this is the case.

i think it costs more simply because making your own name and number costs more then getting a players name and number, i dont think they are charging any more for justic 96 specifically

Liverpool have responded swiftly after shirts referencing the Hillsborough disaster were mistakenly advertised in an official club store.

Ninety six fans were killed on the Leppings Lane terrace at Sheffield Wednesday's ground before the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest - the darkest day in Anfield's history.

Supporters visiting the club's Williamson Square branch on Friday were astonished and angered to see pre-printed replica home shirts with 'Justice 96' on shelves next to ones bearing the names of Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard being sold for £54 each.

Unofficial messageboards were bombarded by fans who felt that Liverpool were insensitively cashing in on the memory of the 96 deceased supporters and the chant which recognises the ongoing battle for the truth of how those 96 who died on 15 April 1989 to be fully exposed.

Ian Pankhurst said: "Whilst the club shouldn't stop supporters requesting these shirts - if people think the back of a shirt is appropriate media for displaying a justice message, then fair enough.

"What the club shouldn't have done was actively market them. In isolation, it looked like a hideous lack of judgement. A donation to the three Hillsborough groups would be a positive step."

The pre-printed shirts have since been removed and a club spokesman has insisted that supporters were still free to request any name and number printing on the back of shirts from official stores.

He said: "Shirts are sold blank and fans can ask for any lettering and numbers to be put on them, within reason.

"A large number of supporters have asked for 'Justice 96' on the back of their shirts in previous years and LFC is happy to provide fans with the same lettering on the new shirts."

Saw this article earlier on Click, would'nt describe it as 'the club acting quickly', more like a lame excuse and no apology, with a plea to fans to feel free to request/buy the shirts at the end of it. Poor response imo if that's all they've said/done.

Assuming it was a case of a store employee using poor judgment, this is a common sense resolution.
