I think the clubs response should bring this to a close.

Wow. If it really was a case of poor judgment from the shop manager, fair enough, we all **** up from time to time, if on the other hand this came down from above, who ever that may be, then it could indicative of perhaps over zealous nature of our commercial push, double edged sword

The club shops actively display the Justice 96 shirts for sale - completely out of order because this is clearly now marketing a Hillsborough 'product' for profit.

This one I'm unsure of, but it seems from what I've read they are also being sold at a higher price?! Is this true? Is £54 what it would come to anyway according to how lettering and numbering is charged for, or are they actually saying these in particular sell well and we want to use that fact to make even more money than we already are doing through marketing them in store? If that IS what has happened, it's sickening, but I'd like to know for sure.
The price is 54 quid because of the lettering.

I don't have any problem with it at all. As You pointed out Polo, they stockpile popular requested shirts for convenience. No matter what the message you still have to pay for the service and the numbering, and if anything it encourages people to promote awareness for the campaign.

Tbh, the biggest part of this for me is where the money go's, and does any part of the sale go to the hillsborough campaign funding or families, is'nt that the most important aspect, and not whether they were on view, no problem with them being on view if some of the cash is going to a worthy cause, and also as is mentioned in the above post it promotes awareness of the injustice that's been done, and is still being done.

Liverpool FC denies profiteering from Hillsborough shirt

Jun 1 2010 by Liza Williams, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL FC bosses have denied they are profiting from the HiIlsborough disaster by selling shirts with Justice 96 printed on the back.

Fans have complained about the merchandise, seen at the club’s Liverpool One shop.

But a spokesman told the ECHO that a single shirt with the message on the back had been put out on the shop floor by mistake.

He said: “For some years, we have happily printed Justice 96 on the back of shirts for fans who asked for it.

“In this case a shirt was ordered via mail order with Justice 96 on the back, but was returned because of a sizing issue.

“It was then mistakenly put out on the shop floor. “We continue to be happy to print Justice 96 on the back of shirts for fans who ask, but have not marketed the shirts or advertised them. It was a one-off mistake that it was out on display.

“Everyone at the club is proud of the relationship we have with families affected by the disaster.”

Sounds like the typical we hate the americans knee jerk reaction to me.

The shirts with Gerrard, Torres etc are cheaper because the lettering is all pre made, single transfer and therefore takes less time to apply.

You can have anything printed on your shirt making up any words / numbers, a lot of people have been getting Justice 96 on their shirts so the store pre-prints some up. If I had walked in and saw one pre-printed I might have bought one rather than a Torres or Gerrard or Carragher - when otherwise I wouldn't have, based on it looking nice on the shirt in that lettering style. (as an aside from what it means)

I really cannot see the problem, the club isn't profiting from this, that is the cost of making a shirt up with that number of letters and numbers.

"the club isn't profiting from this"

I am sure they are, as they don't do lettering at cost price, but agree with the sentiments.

Yes, what I should have said was I don't think they have intentionally gone and created the shirt to make money over and above what they would of if someone bought a shirt and asked for the same number of letters and numbers be printed on it.

Of course the club are making a profit on the shirt but not because it is a Justice 96 shirt.
