i dont know about whether he expected more money but its a possibility. also he played the political game for his benifit but he needed to finish higher to maintian that position of power.

i am not sure many managers of his ilk would happily work under those conditions. remember maureen when he didnt feel backed by abramovic.

No matter how good or expensive your squad is particularly in Cup competitions (CL included) one mistake or misjudgement can cost you which is why IMO defining your success in terms of cup competitions is wrong in my view. But Real Madrid have high expectations and have a high budget to back them up, expecting them to win the league give what they have spent isn't unrealistic. Expecting us to do so given our recent budgets is!
Frankly I think we have no chance of winning the league in the foreseeable future, that's like expecting Tottenham to do so. We just don't have the players nor the funds to do so. Results in the league correspond very closely to the wages team pay and recently the team with highest wages wins the league.

It's fairly straightforward, the team with the best players and the biggest squad stands the best chance of winning since there is not that much between the managers at the top clubs.

Stop dreaming about winning the league and accept our position amongst the other clubs, otherwise we'll never achieve anything. Now our targer should be 4th and nothing else.

This is not aimed at you Exiled Red, it's just similar context.
      * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

i think the bad start painted the picture it meant we had to work at being solid and this explains the formations that with aqua not being fit and then confidence being low and not wanting him to start in a team low on confidence

i think that he should have got another year but it is also true that under the circumstances the club are in he may have done all he can.

but the way it was done was **** and it wasnt done for football reasons however last season eroded his power at the club and they took the chance to get rid. remember though that the owners would have had him go a long time ago and replaced with klinsman.

Comparing our expectations with a club that spent:

          Ronaldo £80m
          Kaka' £56m
          Benzema £34m
          Alonso £30m
          Albiol £12m

          In one summer.

Real Madrids budget is more condusive to winning things than ours is

If Rafa had spent heavily and been sacked then there would be no gripes

The fact he hasnt is why many people are arguing with you

                Fair enough
Just for the record I don't expect us to win the league and haven't done so for a long time

It will take new owners, significant investment and time before we are even in contention again

You haven't mentioned that Houllier was sacked for coming 4th and that everyone seemed to believe it was warranted. therefore getting sacked for finishing 7th must definitely be warranted

Does that constitute 'feeding the bears'?
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

****ing hate H&G, they're far more to blame than Benitez, and i hope that in a few years when some of our amazing youth breaks through that he is credited.

I have no idea who we're going to bring in thats available right now who is a step up from Benitez.

This increases the chance that we lose Torres aswell unfortunately :/ and increases the chance that our other quality players such as Reina will listen to offers from other clubs if we bring in a 2nd-rate manager

Thank You H&G for basically asset stripping our club, you clueless ****S!@*(#!*(@
Torres possibly, but Reina is going nowhere. He is the most loyal player you will ever find alongside Carra. He's just signed a 6 year contract

By contrast, Barca spent much much less, so therefore couldn't possiblt have competed for the title

Haha yeah, instead they just churn out more instant, ready-made superstars from their Academy. Pedro being the latest. Amazing. Amazzing. Amazzwang.

Yes, with much greater net investment.

Oh, possibly except the Gooners, who havent won the league since Abramovitch. Or Rafa.

                            Tootle on, little man.
                            3rd place. Worst champions ever.

It's a fair point, but obviously the league has changed a bit since then, with Chelsea and now Man City.

Ged was sacked becuase people felt he couldn't take us further. Most people don't think that of Rafa, but I do. My sentements for both managers is pretty similar. Gave their all, had some great highs, but it was time, and things were on a downward slope.

Exactly, they only spent £40m on Ibraminovich and £22m on that dodgy defender.

But still we're meant to compete in Europe!
