I think you are being unfair. The way these things tend to work is that the parties that express an interest that is seen to be legitimate, serious and credible are given access to the books and records so that they can study the possible acquisition more closely. They are not compelled to proceed of course, nor are they compelled to offer a price that is acceptable, but they tend not to change their position significantly unless they (a) uncover something unexpected or (b) suffer a change in circumstances. Broughton and BarCap will have made sure that there is nothing unexpected to uncover.
