    Dirk Kuyt

Feel he deserves his own thread rather than being shunted away somewhere in the World Cup forum.

He's been absolutely brilliant in this tournament and I've felt pretty proud of him. Major turnaround from the dross we saw last season but it shows in a side performing well and getting results, he's boss. There's no middle ground with him, in a struggling side he looks like the worst player on earth.

Great to see him in the final though and absolutely made up for him.

    Mr Ferguson in the Independent....

Ferguson picked out Dirk Kuyt as an example of a Premier League player who coped with the demands of the season and has still flourished at the World Cup finals Ferguson said: "It's hard to explain the whole panorama [sic] of that. The likes of Kuyt and the Spanish players who are playing in the Premier League. But all the England team are playing in it so they're all affected. Whereas Spain have one or two, Holland have one or two. They don't all play in England.

"Maybe Kuyt is just exceptional in terms of stamina. That's how it seems to me every time I watch him for Liverpool. I see him with Holland and Liverpool and he's always running. I remember Cafu [captain of the victorious Brazil team in 2002, aged 32] who was up and down the touchline at 38 – it was like the guy had two hearts."
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

He has had a great tournament. I still feel that he is unfairly maligned for last season - he did a lot of things well when others didn't. He is player whose attacking attributes look better when there are others around him playing well but in some regards (long passing being one) I thought he actually improved last season.

Great to see him in a side playing well and getting some plaudits as so often it is others who get the limelight.

Kuyt never gives less than 100%, if Spain get to the final then I won't care which country wins because we'll have at least one player on the field for each team. Maximum respect for Kuyt he has been outstanding for Holland.

Dirk has always been an excellent player - and a team player to boot.

As I mentioned last night, he's now played 39/40 consecutive games for Holland. That's some feat.

With attacking talent like Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Robin van Persie all fighting for a place in the Dutch national side, Dirk Kuyt could be forgiven for wishing he was born with a different nationality.

But the Liverpool man has become somewhat of an immovable object as Holland have reached their first World Cup semi-final since 1978 under the stewardship of Bert van Marwijk.

After featuring in 19 consecutive games during the qualification period, the 29-year-old scored in their competition opener against Denmark.

Since then he has started every game and provided two assists, the last of which for Wesley Sneijder helped dump five-times winners Brazil out of the tournament.

Now van Marwijk has made public his belief that Kuyt is every bit as vital to Dutch hopes as his more celebrated countrymen.

"I read somewhere that when Rafael Benitez picked a team at Liverpool, he wrote Kuyt's name down first. That says everything," Van Marwijk.

"Every player has a period where things don't work out and Liverpool had a very tough year, but Kuyt is extremely important for us.

"The way he plays shows his passion and enthusiasm, and it is catching."

Kuyt's efforts are not lost on his international teammates.

Former Arsenal star Giovanni van Bronckhorst added: "Dirk is so important for us. He can play across all the positions up front.

"The way he fights in a team, his presence, his dedication, it's infectious for the others. It's great having him on the team. For him, it doesn't matter where he plays."

He seems to be playing more left side with the dutch side but pops up everywhere. He's hard to track really.

Dirk Kuyt has received a boost ahead of the World Cup semi-final after being praised by Holland’s greatest ever player. Kuyt and his team-mates face Uruguay in the last four of the competition in a match you can see on STV and online in HD from 7pm.

Johan Cruyff, who has been in South Africa watching his country on their run to the semi-finals, singled out Liverpool star Kuyt for praise after his performance against Brazil in the previous round. The iconic Dutchman praised his energy and movement as well as his combination of defensive and attacking awareness throughout the tournament.

"Without belittling anyone, it is still nice to see how Kuyt developed into one of the most valuable players,” said Cruyff. “There were doubts, but he was ready as of the opening game,"

"Look at what he did. He started on the right, then at forward and against Brazil on the left. Not only did he keep Maicon out of the game, he also set up the winner.

"Someone like that is worth his weight in gold."

Kuyt has already scored in the tournament, finishing a move against Denmark in the group stages after Eljero Elia had hit the post. The forward also set up Wesley Sneijder’s winner against Brazil.

In addition to praise from one of the greatest players of all time, Kuyt was also backed by his manager, Bert van Marwijk.
"He always gives everyone a signal how it should be done and his impact and enthusiasm is very infectious," the national team coach said. "He is incredibly important."

Van Marwijk’s side now stand on the verge of equalling Holland’s best ever performance at the World Cup. The nation reached the final of both the 1974 and 1978 competitions with Cruyff playing a central role in the former.

What do all these ‘experts’ know, he’s ****. Does Van Marwijk not know he a striker anyway, and can’t play out wide.

Delighted to see him playing so well and making it to the final. Sadly I still think he’ll still follow Rafa to Inter, but at least the World Cup has added a few million to his value.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I don't think he will follow Rafa at all. Unless they offer silly money, I'd tell Rafa to go take one .

Why would we let a WC finalist go mate ( maybe a WC winner )

Is there a World Cup assists chart anywhere? If so Dirk must be right up there.

He's joint top 'assister' (3 assists in total) with about four other players.
