Spain's Football Federation has confirmed that Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has ruptured a muscle in his left thigh.

The 26-year-old striker was a substitute in Sunday's World Cup final against Holland, but pulled up as the end of extra-time approached.

Torres returned to Spain following the triumph, along with the rest of Vicente Del Bosque's successful squad, and has now undergone a scan on the injury to ascertain the full extent of the blow.

A statement on the SFF's website confirmed Torres had a magnetic resonance scan at the Cemtro de Madrid Clinic and evidence was found of "a Grade 1 muscle fibre rupture in the left thigh."

Torres struggled to make the World Cup after missing the end of Liverpool's season with right knee injuries and looked out of sorts in South Africa.
The former Atletico Madrid striker earned four starts in the tournament after coming on in their opening group game defeat to Switzerland before being dropped for the semi-final against Germany.

Cadena Ser news network confirmed on Wednesday the scan results would be sent to Liverpool and it was unlikely Torres would play before the new Premier League season starts next month.

Hopefully the new medical team can sort him out. They claim Aquilani's ankle problem is 100% sorted.

Yeah I saw that article. Interesting read and I'm hopeful they can sort out some of our problems. We could really test them out and bring back Harry

No doubt he'll be back before August 11th, play for Spain in their friendly and get injured again.

Yes i also heard this, cant remember the source though. they claimed that the injury is 100% fixed and there is virtually no chance of a reoccurance.

obviously this means that it wont get injured again through being weakened etc.

Grade 1. He wont be out for too long.
As someone else said, at least its not a re-occurrence of hamstring or groin. That tends to build up scar tissue and makes it hard to get a full recovery.

Hopefully they can do the same with Torres, if he's having some time off to recover from the World Cup then he won't be match fit to start the season. Hopefully the medical staff can work on him early in the season and get these problems sorted out so that he'll be fit for the rest of the season. And hopefully we'll have signed someone who can cover for him for in time for the start of the season.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

lets hope so, maybe a blessing in disguise if he gets some rest and does come back 100% fit.

I also hope it ensures that Roy gets adequate cover for Torres and we bring in at least 1 quality forward.

Lets get Miroslav Klose. The guy would be phenomenal for us.

If the clock started on Monday after the Final...

                        Week 1 - 7/12-19
                        Week 2- 7/19 -26
                        Week 3- 7/26- 8/2

I hope the timeline is correct and that he ends up fine. He should simply declare his commitment to the club and go rest on a beach somewhere.

Thing is, he could do with at least 6 week rest.

He's not had a decent injury free break for 3 years.
                          Oh I don't know.

On the serious note, I'd love us to sign him... Yes his club's record lately has been ****e but with the new club and need to prove to others that he can still do it (as he's done it at WC) would be enough for me..
