    Is Gerrard getting it?

Gerrard does not seem to get it. I know that what Rafa says to the players and what Rafa says to the press are two different things, but what he has said to the press is that Gerrard should play for us like Ronaldinho plays for Barca

I don’t know what that means to Gerrard but to me that means he should be the heart and soul of our ATTACK!

    And to me that means:

    He should not,

    1. Run around the midfield tackling people. ( We have Momo for that )
    2. Run back to his own half to get the ball. ( We have Xabi for that )
    3. Stay planted on the wing to get in crosses ( Pennant )

Simply put we don’t need him to run the game any more, we need him to win the game.

When Rafa says something like this he means it. Gerrard should be receiving the ball between midfield and defense with his back to the goal and turning to run towards goal. Or running into spaces in front of the defense, getting the ball and looking for a shot. He should always have a winger, a midfielder and two strikers running into space around him.

And the frustrating thing is he has all the attributes to play like this. Pace, technique, creativity, strength, power, an awesome shot, vision, finishing………

For me he could watch a number of players to understand what Rafa wants of him.
Ronaldinho, Zidane, Dalglish, Cantona to name but a few. Personally I would sit him down and have him watch Kaka. Because if Gerrard could just get it into his brain that he is an attacking player and he should be playing like an attacking player we would see in 4-6 years time his name up there with the likes of Zidane, Maradona, Croif and so on

Some managers would undoubtedly just use him in a two man midfield for the rest of his carrier and he would do very well, but it seems that Rafa sees that as a waist of talent. And I agree. This game is about scoring goals and that is where he contributes the most, end of story.

    Rant over

The point is not where he is playing but how he is playing.

Yes but does this comment still apply?

I thought this was going to be about whether he's getting 'it' in the sack or not, but to my surprise it was a lengthy post, which I can't be arsed reading at this time of night (no offense), because I'll have to construct a decent reply then.

I'll come back to this in the morning tho

ronaldinho does that exact thing on the left side, what he means is that gerard should be able to do it as well, but what he's really saying is that gerrar should be playing a free role bettween midfield ant the stirkers with two holding midfielder behind him couple of wide player weather they are wide strikers or midfilelers does not matter and one propper out and out striker. and let him roam around like kaka does or robinho did last night...

what i suspect what einar is gettin at is that he pretty daft, and is a much better player than he thinks he is. he has the capability to be a world beater an offencive machine whou could score 20 goals every season, but somehow he thinks he only a cm when he can be so much more...

So much top level sport is psychological though (not that I'd know really). Gerrard is a sensitive soul, he thought we wanted rid after the Champions League win because we weren't banging down his door with a contract offer.
Of course he has the ability but he needs handling in the correct way and if he's not happy then we need to sort it out, otherwise we're wasting our best player.

i seriously wonder about Gerrard's mental condition sometimes, he seems to be quite immature at times, and if you watch that prog bout him on Sky1 he has an OCD about cleaning his hands a lot. Obviously cleaning his hands doesn't make him a nut job, but it shows he has a compulsive side to him, haven't read his book yet, so don't know if he goes into further detail about it.
