i think Shelvey, Pacheco, Kelly and maybe Spearing will all get extended game time this season... noises have come out that LFC will be prioritising the league this year..... i think it will depend on how we are going in the league but if we get a good start (first 6 - 8 games or so) and there are some hard fixtures in there, then i think we will really prioritise the league and push on that way. That should allow the europa, league cup and maybe even fa cups as nice-to-haves as opposed to our bread and butter......

I know that the league has to be our priority, but realistically we're looking at a top 4 finish. I suspect that Hodgson as a new man in the job would like to win a trophy, so I'm not so convinced that we will be resting players for cup games as much as some people are suggesting or would like.

Mainly due to the fact it looks like Roy and Purslow are clearing out the squad. Nothing against Rafa there mate but if Rafa had stayed i don't think the squad would be getting cleared out to this extent.

I don't think it is being cleared out. I think most of the out goings would have gone on anyway. We have only sold one player so far.

3 of them were already gone in Jan, we always ship out some reserves and youth players. That isn't a clear out.
The only real recent sale is Yossi.

I think it is more important to player the best player that we can and Shelvey has a tough time because he is up against Gerrard and Aquilani.

And you may have noticed, we did what you are suggesting last year! It didn't work.

from what i've seen of shelvey so far, i think he'll need to learn to tackle if he wants to play in the cm berths.

Presuming we'd get £5 million for Riera, £25-30 million for Masch and about 4million for Ngog, that's about £65 million worth of players we'll have sold since January without spending a penny on fees for replacements thus far.

Possibly add El Zhar, Degen, Plessis, Kyrgiakous and Babel to that list too raising a further £12 million or so.

The squad would be decimated and we'd have to sign a DM, another winger (Turan please!), striker (or two), CB and two left backs!

Personally out of that lot i'd keep Krygiakous and Ngog and try and get Turan, a decent £10-15 mill defensive midfielder, a quality left back and another striker.

No I don't think so.

We wouldn't be needing to sell him if we had cash to buy a new Big name player as compared to him not wanting to play second fiddle if we sign a "big name " player. I hope that makes better sense.

I personally would like to see more of Pacheco. He looked very promising in those few games he came from the bench. It'd be great if Roy would play him regularly in Europa League, FA & Curling Cup so we can see if he is ready to compete with the big boys.

We seriously lack experienced players, if those players leave we'll be down to about 13 players with more than a handful of games expereience playing at the top level (admittedly El Zhar, Degen and Plessis will be no great loss). But we need about 7 more experienced players (to be honest I can't see us signing that mant more), we can't just rely on kids for cover.
