    Transfers That Didn't Happen

    This is inspired by DannyMan2006 in the Robbie Keane thread, and when he mentioned Arshavin ... it got me thinking, who have we missed out on ... or other teams for that matter.

    Football transfers were the player that *almost* joined, but didn't quite get there - predominately Liverpool, but why not any famous footballer in general.

    Michael Laudrup is the obvious one for us, Roy Keane to Blackburn before Man Utd is an amusing one - any others?

    Simao was on the plane but got off before it took off for Liverpool apparently.

        The Arshavin one came as a surprise to me as I'd never heard that one, what happened in the Simao transfer Tee?

        Diego Maradonna to Sheffield United is one of my favourites.

            Don't know what went wrong in the Simao deal, but at the time IIRC he was on the plane and ready to come. I think Coco could not agree a final fee with his club (Benfica?). Would have been a fantastic addition at the time.

              How close are we talking here?

              I thought the Dani Alves 'transfer' didn't go ahead, because we rang up for a price and then wouldn't meet it?

              The Ronaldo transfer was Man Utd offering double what we wanted to pay?

              Pato and Walcott?

                    I thought he'd come over, passed a medical and then it was personal terms.

                    Thinking about it though, as soon as you mentioned Coco the credibility of the story went up a notch.

                      Simao you just knew Parry would fail with it. He was Sabrosa be a really good player as well.

                              I dont think this counts but.. After signing for united Barthez went to melwood for training, and was turned away..
