Interesting you said that as I would think the same thing about anybody who would not want him to start.

It is an opinion at the end of the day and no need for the big bold words..

He went through entire pre-season and he was more than decent.
If he plays more than few games in the row and if he does not perform perhaps then people can rate him or not. To me it is pretty shallow to pre-judge a player who in honesty is not given any real opportunity to show what he is capable of.

World Cup finalists Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie will need their fitness assessing ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener at Liverpool.

Midfielders Alex Song and Denilson also face late checks due to niggling injuries so England youngster Jack Wilshere could start.

Summer signings Laurent Koscielny and Marouane Chamakh are in the squad but Nicklas Bendtner, Johan Djourou and Aaron Ramsey are all out injured.



Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is in contention for a place in the squad.

The World Cup winner sustained an adductor injury in their World Cup final victory but has made good progress in his rehabilitation and could feature at Anfield.

Wantaway midfielder Javier Mascherano could also play as the club have not received any bids for the Argentina captain, who has impressed Hodgson with his attitude in training.

The match may be too early for Christian Poulsen, who only signed on Thursday.
