here's a quick rundown of transfer stuff that they've spotted as economists
new managers waste money (and conversely that there can be bargains to be had at clubs that get a new manager)
stars of recent world cups / international championships are overvalued
certain nationalities are overvalued (the dutch, the brazilians)
blondes (see earlier post)
older players are overrated (Peter Taylor wrote of LFC in our pomp: "ive noticed over the years how often Liverpool sell players as they near or pass their thirtieth birthday" - apparently paisley felt the average top flight player is beginning to burn out at 30)
players with personal problems are good value - IF you can help them
the best time to buy players is when they are in their early 20s - at that point you know they'll be good unlike at 17 or 18 where brilliant players disappear
centre forwards are overpriced - goalkeepers are underpriced yet have the longest careers
was an interesting read - particularly the bit on wages where the statsmen got to work.
