I would also find it very doubtful that we or anyone else will discover the english messi for the next 20 years at least.

Specially as it took the whole world 30odd years to find messi after maradona.

I think there's much more chance of the next Messi being from South America (again) or Africa, simply due to the sheer number of kids to choose from.

By this logic he could come out of India or China, dont they have 30% of the worlds population combined.

Until we teach kids to actually play football from a young age and they start learning technique and comfort with the ball over tactics and looking at who is the sprintiest, no, we are not likely to find a local talent like Messi.

There was an interview with Perry Groves on 5live a few weeks ago with him saying exactly that. He reckoned if Messi had been English and therefore coached the way we coach kids, he would have never made it as a footballer. I was very impressed with him (Groves) actually. Was very articulate and seemed know a lot about the game and the English coaching system.

Joe cole got his 1st lfc goal yesterday. Scored in a 4-0 behind closed doors win over tranmere. Kuyt got one too. Dont know who got other 2

I actually was thinking that we should have arranged a friendly with the likes of Tranmere for the players who weren’t on Internationals. Anyone any more info on the match?
