Where are you?Originally posted by RedReet View PostI can honestly say I can only think of three people I know or have ever met that I found knowledgeable on Liverpool or even football. I get much better conversation from a couple of Gooners and as much as I pain to say it, a Manc.
I actually generally hate speaking to Liverpool supporters, as 90% of the time I know exactly what they are gonna say and how the conversation is going to progress.

Im from Colchester, but am just as passionate about us as someone who lives near Anfield. I may not get up there much but it dosnt mean i dont know who our youth team prospects are.
Geography has nothing to do with it nowadays, its all about fair weather fans.
I see kids who have Man City shirts on playing at parks near me, sickens me! Same with Chelsea.
The reason i support liverpool is because i like the vibe the club had when i was younger. Im 25 so missed the good years. I came into it when Barnes was on his way out and Fowler was the up and coming GOD.
I get rattled when people tell me im not a real fan because im not from Liverpool.*Except Michael, who died.

I have to say I find gooners the most idiotic supporters I have come across, them and Chelsea fans just don't have a clue.I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. It doesn't matter too much if your an OOT or local to be honest but I do have the belief that there is a slight bit more in the passion of proper local fans to proper OOT fans in the fact that the club not only represents who they support but it also represents their identity in relation to the city they are from. Not to say OOTs are lesser fans, more that I believe the club has a bit more meaning for locals.
I hope what I'm trying to get at comes across ok.
Agree with this, i don't see how it could be any other way.
Although it's a deeper passion i'm thinking of, on the surface, at matches..i believe any ooter can show as much passion as any local fan, but deep down in a persons roots, i believe locals must and do have a bigger affinity to the club itself.Last edited by Vermilion; 13-08-10, 12:33 PM.

Bottom lineOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostIt's nothing to do with whether someone is local or an OOTer, it's just about whether they're enough of a fan to make themselves aware of things about the club, or not.
I do wonder what the point of talking about this issue is really? It's not as if there are two distinct types of Liverpool fan, OOTs and those who live in Liverpool. Baffling.Like blood on iron

N.Ireland. Should have actually added that, ha ha.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostWhere are you?
In saying that, I'm not really an approachable person, so when I go to matches the only people I'm likely to get into a football conversation with is a taxi man or the person beside me at the match. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I see where you're coming from, but there's also an argument for the OOT fan, in terms of the time and money they spend in order to support the club. In one respect, it could be argued that this shows more dedication.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostI agree with this mate. It's easy to wake up at midday, laze about and then take the 20 minute journey to Anfield, whereas for example, a 12:45pm kickoff in my situation means being up at 5am and leaving at 6am, in order to go to the game. Not to mention even earlier, if it's an early kickoff at somewhere like Sunderland or Newcastle etc. Doing that week in, week out - would a local do that, if they had to? Some would, some wouldnt.

I'd agree with it too. It would make far more sense for me to be an Arsenal fan as they are my local team and I think it would make life a lot easier as everyone I know is a gooner, all my family and I could get to the Emirates regularly and easily instead of making 8 hour round trips up to Anfield which I find soul destroying.Originally posted by Vermilion View Post

I gathered that now mate. Half the time people blame OOT's but they don't try as hard as they could to get a ticket.Originally posted by El Diego View PostIt's not meant to be a thread to wind people up, it's just some times people say I can't get tickets because of OOTers. Then how did I get a ticket??
The principle of OOT's taking tickets is that supporters clubs all obver the place get a very decent allocation. For instance the MK Northants club have a load of season tickets and get an allocation of other seats that they can sell for each game. This means that members of that Supporters club can obviously get a ticket a lot easier than your average local fan. Even if they have never been a game before.
I have been on the coach before when there have been spare tickets to be sold on at the ground which is a problem IMO. You get to the ground and all seats are sold out but a supporters club could have a few spares.
Fact is though these supporters from MK Northants have a decent number of fans who travel to every home game and most away games so they are just as good as fans in that respect.

Having been to the Emirates before, it probably takes as long to get out of there via the underground as it would to get back to London from Liverpool.Originally posted by Chrono View PostI'd agree with it too. When I go up to Anfield I am talking about £60-70 just for the train, then if it's a night game a hotel (I really like the radisson) as well because I think the last train is at 9:30Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI see where you're coming from, but there's also an argument for the OOT fan, in terms of the time and money they spend in order to support the club.
