    The Old OOT Debate (sorry)

I was just thinking to myself if the people who are out of towners are more passionate (knowledgeable) about the club than some of the locals?? Maybe because they can't take it for granted like the people with it on the door step? The reason being the last couple of visits I have made to Liverpool most of the locals I have spoken to about the club seem to get a lot of the dates wrong in terms of seasons and when we won throphies, also they seem not to know many of the youngsters we have coming through. I also find them to be very knee jerk and the majority that I have spoken to talk a lot of crap (bit like myself). Although saying this the people are mainly either taxi drivers or people who I meet after the game in the city centre pubs and ask me either how the game was or what the score was. I don't know for sure but would think that the majority of the people who have/will go to the europa league qualifiers will be OOTer's, why would this be when the tickets are at a very reasonable price and plenty of tickets available?
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're jumping to the conclusion that those locals you've met are 'hard core' supporters and they're obviously not.

I live in London and i know people who claim to be proper Reds, but dont know who half of our young up and coming players are, and dont know who our next game is against, half the time.

It's nothing to do with whether someone is local or an OOTer, it's just about whether they're enough of a fan to make themselves aware of things about the club, or not.

OTT? Over the top? At lot of your out of towners go once twice a season mate. I know this as I travel from MK (am a scouser but have lived down here 10 years now) and used to share a bus with them. To say some of these people were knowledgable is laughable. I used to plug my headphones in so I didn't have to listen to the **** they used to spout. I remember one lad at his first game getting of the bus with a copy of The S*n sticking out of his back pocket!

I know a few OOT's who go the game due to the fact I live down south and the majority are sound. One thing you have to take into consideration is most of your OOT's will be getting paid a hell of a lot more than a lot of locals. The wages down South are much better.

Anyway, I could go on and on about this subject but I am presuming this is some sort of WUM thread so will leave you to it.

The OOT'er that's prepared to spend 100's or even 1000's of pounds to get to Anfield to see us play would hopefully be able to tell you who's likely to play on the day. No guarantee I know but I said hopefully.

I've seen people on motorway service stations, with a Liverpool shirt on, carrying the S*n. It's just dire.

I dont think the 'clueless' fan thing is only to be labelled at OOTers though, and as i've said, it just depends on the person - where they're from or live, has little to do with it IMO.

Most probably, but not in all cases.

Although the clueless ones i know, who i described, certainly arent regular matchgoers. Maybe once or twice a season. Max.

I rarely know who we are playing next. Used to know several fixtures ahead but rarely get excited about it now in fact I fear I'm losing my love for football although I like to keep up to date with the youngsters as they haven't become egomaniac ******s at this point in their lives.

I agree with this mate. There are as many local fans who don't have that great a knowledge of the club. Just say they support them.

It doesn't matter too much if your an OOT or local to be honest but I do have the belief that there is a slight bit more in the passion of proper local fans to proper OOT fans in the fact that the club not only represents who they support but it also represents their identity in relation to the city they are from. Not to say OOTs are lesser fans, more that I believe the club has a bit more meaning for locals.

I hope what I'm trying to get at comes across ok.

It's not meant to be a thread to wind people up, it's just some times people say I can't get tickets because of OOTers. Then how did I get a ticket??

I can honestly say I can only think of three people I know or have ever met that I found knowledgeable on Liverpool or even football. I get much better conversation from a couple of Gooners and as much as I pain to say it, a Manc.

I actually generally hate speaking to Liverpool supporters, as 90% of the time I know exactly what they are gonna say and how the conversation is going to progress.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
