To answer your point the ball has to pass through or over a 'zone' or sometimes several 'zones' before it gets to the attacker who is 'running' to use your term, the idea (and I'll admit no system works perfectly) is that the ball is cleared by the defender patrolling the 'zone' that the ball heads towards, now this is complicated by the height of the individual player with responsibility for the zones so to state the obvious as an example Sissoko is a lot taller than Lucas so he can clear a ball from a higher trajectory so in theory the system could work perfectly but we could conceed with Lucas in the team marking a zone that Sissoko did previously.

      If that makes sense

already this year we look more stable and confident defending corners / set plays. zonal marking was poor IMO. i hate the fact a player like spearing or aurelio could be lumbered against crouch or berbatov. Also, roy doesnt brign all 11 men back inside the 18 yard box to defend so in conclusion . . . . . .zonal = piss man marking = good.

Eh? We were extremely vulnerable on corners last night and gave away a few chances. Aurelio in particular seemed all at sea with man to man.

we won all but one arial challenge from corners last night which was the fabio one. you could see the players were more confortable with the new system. carra never berated anyone after a corner for a change.

just one game back and I realsied exactly why I dislike the guy. What a shambolic performance he gave last night. Same old useless freekicks and efforts at goals and general one footedness. Our passing and play would be so much better if players occasionally used their other foot to make short passes. At least I won't have to worry too much as its only a matter of minutes before he breaks something.

fabio is a class act and bloody good player. his only problem is his lack of fitness / injury prone. his performance last night was anything but shambolic.

I'll split you down the middle - I like Fabio, he's a ridiculously underrated player but he was garbage last night. In his defence it was his first game of football for ****ing months, not sure what some people expected. Ring rust was guaranteed.

I've only ever heard it before as an adjectival phrase - "ring rusty." Ring rust sounds very unpleasant indeed and probably worth a visit to the doctor.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

We are quite a small team in comparison to others. With the right delivery and a well timed jump by the opposition, due to our lack of height it is hard to prevent a chance on goal. And that is regardless of whether we deploy man to man or Zonal.

Luckily, it's not often a team gets the delivery and timing of a jump right from corners.

I thought we looked a bit all over the place last night at set pieces, but like I said before I hope that this is just because it's taking the players a while to get used to it, after operating a zonal marking system for so long. I'll reserve judgement on which system is better until later in the season.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
