Lucas i suggest due to our otherwise lack of options in that position. Babel I do think could have a long term future their.

Personally I'd rather we signed someone like VdV or Defour, or sneaked a loan swap deal with Juve with Aquilani going there and Diego coming here.

In his last three seasons, Gerrard has scored 59 goals in all comps (13, 26, 20) from the position behind Nando. If Roy is gonna insist on moving him out of the area in which he's the most effective (with goals being the game's most vital currency, if not the only one), then we need to replace 20 goals a season. Cole ain't gonna get that many. The only we won't take a hit is if Joe manages 10 or so with Gerrard chipping in with the same from the deeper position.

But re the City game, with Cole out, we have only one option for my money and that's Stevie off Nando.

I think it's one thing starting attacks, but in the advanced position Stevie finishes them, routinely. Much more valuable to us.

To be honest, despite all the hype about Cole in the hole (and I'm guilty too, I wanted to see him there)...if we were playing a Cup final tomorrow with our current squad, I'd play Gerrard off Nando, Cole coming off the left and Dirk right. But that's another debate.
