meaning that central attacking midfielder box to box is not what you mean (speculating cause you haven't woted that), and is thats not the case, then you don't see him as an attacking player?

I wondered how to phrase that. Should've just put central really...didn't want to over-complicate matters. We all know he's not a defensive midfielder so it's surely fair to sum him up (in a central role) as attacking...and possibly box-to-box. He ****ing should be box-to-box anyway.

i know mate, was just wondering cause at the time he posted central midfield no one had posted that option so was wonering if he had something against it...

but on the defencive part, not so many years ago thats exactly what people tought of him, maybe it's time to change peoples mids again...

I voted option 1 but the poll wasn't there when Red_Hot and myself first posted our replies.
I see his best position as central midfield, not attacking midfielder. I think it's time to play him and Xabi together.

                          My answer:

                          Where Rafa tell him.

IS that ok with you Carheex?

Many teams have and still do play with two central midfielders - one being a more defensive one than the other. Arsenal play with Gilberto Silva and AN Other, United with Carrick & Scholes...so why can't Xabi & Stevie work as a central pair? I think we all thought the same thing when we signed Alonso. On paper they ought to be amongst the best, if the not the best central midfield partnership in world football - yet it's never worked. Why?

I don't think it's been given enough of a chance to be honest, gerrard and alonso have always had the luxury of a primarily defensive midfielder alongside them.
Between them they can do the job currently done by the 3 of them. They need to play that way and develop a partnership. It won't happen immediately, but it will given time, they just have to adapt.
Whether or not you think the title is still a possibility or not, i think most accept that things need to change. I think this season, after the start we've had is a perfect opportunity to try and develop that partnership.
