Sponsored bike ride from Reading to Anfield for Hillsborough

So.... i've started to train to do a sponsored bike ride from where I live near Reading to Anfield.
Probably going to do it over 3 days, or 2 if training goes well

I plan to arrive in time to attend the 2011 memorial service.

Hoping to raise at least £1000 for HFSG.

Any other cyclists fancy joining me to try and raise even more?

And if not at least post some words of encouragement as i've never riden anywhere like that distance before!

    Cheers!

Hats off to you mate. Wish I was inspired to do such things. I used to bike a lot and then I discovered the car. Last time I rode a bike I had a sore arse for days. Hope it goes well for you, I would sponsor you but with the missus becoming a full time student again, we're skint. Good luck chap.

I'd be interested in joining you pal - whereabouts in Reading are you?

And when are you planning on going?

I'd be tempted to do it. Getting sponsorship might be a problem. I'll have to have a think about how I might do that. It's not easy being a loner.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I'm more curious about joining you than definitely interested at the moment but if I was a hat wearing gentleman I would most certainly doff it to you

post a justgiving linkto your sponsorship page and I'll drop in a couple of quid

for those living on the route, can anyone offer food etc. as encouragement?

Hi guys thanks for the positive words

Lee, I live in Wokingham but we can leave from anywhere in the area really. Whereabouts are you?

The plan is to arrive on the day of the memorial service which I expect will be Friday 15th April, though I don't think details have been announced yet.

About sponsorship I was planning on using justgiving.com as it really makes getting sponsorship money a million percent easier.
The problem I think is that you can only use justgiving.com with registered charities and HFSG isn't a registered charity, to the best of my knowledge.

                    Something to work out.

I think Virgin Money offer some sort of online donations collection service.

If you start in Reading let me know and I'll come and wave you off.

My love is worth more than a grand Mr Young, so I'll sponsor you with love from the bottom of my heart

I live in Farnham buddy but Reading is absolutely fine - actually it's probably easier than going from Wokingham as I can get a train direct to Reading. Do they allow you to take bikes on a train?!

Certainly up for this actually, I must dust down my Raleigh Activator

                              Good stuff Lee

I just had a call from Margaret Aspinall, the chair of HFSG, and discussed the plans at a high level, and next time I'm up north I'm going to meet up with her and some others at the HFSG offices to discuss the event in more detail.

                              Will keep you all informed.
