Perhaps. Skrtel is more mobile than him though. Guess we'l find out soon enough.

As for the **** that was masquerading as Liverpool on the pitch, Meireles and Konchesky can't get here soon enough IMO. Lucas to the bench, Poulsen DM, Jova to the bench and Cole on the left, Meireles in attacking midfield, Gerrard in the hole, Torres up top, Skrtel to the bench, Agger to the middle, Konchesky LB.

We need a shuffle desperately; Jova, Lucas, Skrtel out. Dire dire stuff, that.
      Nail on the head stuff

A win is a win, but I'd like to see signs that we are improving performance wise and we're looking to establish a way of playing. I'm not seeing that at the moment, I know we missed Cole, but I feel we need another creative player, to add width, because we play far too narrow and don't stretch teams
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Roy on today's game: "I thought West Brom played extremely well, especially in the first half when I thought we weren't at our best," he told Sky Sports.

"I thought we got better the longer the game went on and I think in the second-half it wasn't such a surprise that we scored the goal.

"You've got to give them an awful lot of credit, after that first defeat at Chelsea I think an awful lot of people have underrated them but we didn't. We knew they were going to be a good team and they certainly showed that here today."

On Torres' match-winning goal and performance, Hodgson remarked: "Luckily Fernando Torres produced that moment of class at the end with a wonderful goal. Reina's throw, Kuyt's pass and Torres' finish - that was probably the difference between the two sides today.

"It was a wonderful strike. In the first-half he was still struggling a bit for match fitness, it's very early on in the season for him.

"He started pre-season late, he nursed his knee through the World Cup, he was disappointed in his World Cup so I don't think we're seeing anything like the best of him yet.

"It'll take a few more games until he really clicks into top gear. We're seeing signs of it from time to time and luckily today for me, once clicking into top gear was enough."

              Stamp

Hodgson believes that he is beginning to put his own stamp on the club after a few months at the helm, having completed the signing of Raul Meireles, while Paul Konchesky is on the verge of finalising a move.

The former Fulham boss is still looking to add a striker to his squad, as he looks to take Liverpool forward.

He added: "I think I'm starting to (put stamp on club). You don't put your stamp on a club, especially a club of this stature, after a couple of months.

"It takes more than two months
but it is nice to get players like Meireles and Konchesky hopefully in to bolster our squad having lost players of the class of (Javier) Mascherano and (Alberto) Aquilani.

"It was important that we found players to bring in of similar and good Premier League quality. I think those two will stand us in good stead and if we can add one more player before the end of the transfer window then I'll be even happier.

"We've got Ryan Babel who has not had much of a chance so far, so we're not desperately short, but if we are going to have a long season in the Europa League that's going to add enormously to the number of games w play.

"It would be nice to have another striker of Fernando Torres' type, we're not going to get one of his quality of course."

he's obviously making out that aquilani's exit was a loss of quality. lumped him in with mascher there, saying them two leaving leaves some gaps, rather than mascher leaving, and aquilani vacating a spot that's now merely up for grabs. to me he's not saying the latter.

Stop ****ing moaning everyone - WB never even looked like scoring.
That's not true y'know. The thing that stopped them scoring was that they couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. But they were getting plenty of shots in.

Against someone half decent we would have conceded today at best.

We didn't dominate, and I don't get why our central midfielders were so deep. It felt like we had 6 at the back for most of the game when we were just at home to West Brom.

There were very few options ahead of the ball, and despite that West Brom were still managing to get crosses in and get shots in, and had too much space (even at 10 men) whenever they had the ball in the attacking third.

Three points yes, and I'm thankful. But lacklustre is the best way to sum us up today.

They had 11 shots to our 11, and better chances on the whole. Carson barely had to make a save, Pepe certainly made more.

a good interview with the boss, also some nice comments about bringing an extra striker to the fold, and not one of Toinen's (spelling??) profile but more a Torres type player i.e. and outright striker!
